Morning Update: Make Them Censor You

Today, on the Morning Update, Seth Dillon (Babylon Bee) spoke at ARC and had some sage advice we’ve long advocated. It’s one thing to talk about censorship; it’s another to actually engage in it, and the left does more of it than anyone by making you afraid to say what’s on your mind.

Welcome to another edition of the morning update. It is Monday, July 6th, 2026.

Hope everybody had a great 4th of July weekend. Independence month continues across the fruited plain, from sea to shining sea, and right here at Granitegrok.com

So, free speech is pretty important. In fact, it’s kind of what we do here. And so, when Seth Dillon spoke at ARC, I was incredibly interested in hearing what he had to say, and I was not disappointed. Let’s just start by framing the narrative about the narrative.

An institution that once existed to give you the facts so that you could then determine your own truth pretty much exists to tell you the truth and then to define how you are allowed to interpret it and communicate it, even when that truth is a lie.

I wrote a post you’ll read later today about a Boston Globe headline that fits this very nicely. Make sure you read it. And remember your obligation to the truth; it’s pretty damn important. In fact, it’s so important that in Jordan Peterson’s book Twelve Rules for Life, an Antidote to Chaos, rule number eight is the quest for truth.

Quote, why is honesty so crucial and how does it connect to the concept of freedom in life? The answer lies in the burden that falsehoods and lies impose on our existence. When we lie, we create a tangled web of deceit that binds us to a false reality. This web limits our choices and actions, forcing us to expend energy maintaining the facade we’ve constructed.

If you look at the political left, you will also realize that it makes you unstable, angry, and sometimes violent; that’s a very dangerous place to be. It’s also a very unhappy place to be. And nobody really wants to be there, but human beings believe what they believe, and once they start believing it, it becomes incredibly uncomfortable to stop.

But that doesn’t matter because you need to tell the truth.

Now it is fair to say that everybody has their own truth, but one side isn’t trying to censor it if they disagree, and the other side is, and that’s the truth.

That’s it for today. We’ll talk to you tomorrow.
