URGENT ACTION ALERT: Critical Firearms Votes This Week in the NH House and Senate – Demand No-Compromise Campus Carry and Strong 2A Protections!
Fellow Granite Staters and Second Amendment Supporters,
The New Hampshire Firearms Coalition is issuing this urgent alert regarding key bills facing votes this week (May 12–16, 2026) in both the New Hampshire House and Senate.
As detailed in our previous discussions, alerts, and member updates, these measures directly impact your constitutional right to keep and bear arms in a constitutional carry state.
The Senate’s track record this session has been one of repeated stalling, killing, and watering down pro-2A bills — and we cannot allow that pattern to continue with HB 1793.
Here are the 3 main talking points to deliver when contacting your legislators:
HB 1793 (Campus Carry) MUST Pass as the Strong House Version – No Watering Down, No Gutting, No Study Committee! The House passed HB 1793 decisively on February 5, 2026 (188-165) to prohibit public colleges and universities from regulating, restricting, or banning the possession, carry, storage, or lawful use of firearms and non-lethal self-defense tools (pepper spray, tasers, stun guns) on campus. In a constitutional carry state, law-abiding adults — including college students, faculty, staff, and visitors — have the right to defend themselves anywhere in New Hampshire. Recent Senate Judiciary Committee action (April 30 amendment, 3-2 or 4-2 vote) guts the bill: it replaces real protections with an interim study committee (a classic kill tactic) and limits safeguards to non-lethal tools only. This is completely unacceptable. As we have emphasized repeatedly in prior alerts and discussions, any compromise, delay, or weakening of HB 1793 betrays the House’s clear action and our statewide constitutional carry law. Demand the Senate pass the original House-passed version as-is — or reject the weakened version outright.
Support the House Effort to Amend Campus Carry Protections onto SB 408. There will be an attempt this week in the House to attach strong campus carry language (consistent with the original HB 1793) as an amendment to SB 408. This strategic move provides a critical opportunity to advance protections for law-abiding citizens on public campuses without further delay. We strongly support this amendment and urge your legislators to back it fully.
- The Senate’s Pattern of Failures on Firearms Bills This Session Must End Now. The Senate has repeatedly failed Granite State gun owners this year despite House action on strong pro-2A measures:
- SB 466 (anti-gun bill prohibiting/penalizing unserialized “printed” firearms) — introduced by 4 Republican senators and advanced.
- SB 462 (cannabis patients’ gun rights protection) — killed/referred to interim study.
- HB 609 (fixing preemption loopholes and protecting non-lethal tools) — stalled in Senate Judiciary.
- HB 1108 (fixing criminal threatening/self-defense statutes) — killed/referred to interim study.
- HB 1697 (“Made in NH” firearms freedom bill) — killed outright.
- And now HB 1793 is being gutted.
YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION IS REQUIRED – CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS AND TEH GOVERNOR Today! Time is short before these critical votes. Call or email your own State Representative and your own State Senator right now. Phone calls are especially effective.
- Demand they vote to pass the original House version of HB 1793 without any weakening amendments, study committees, or gutting.
- Support the campus carry amendment to SB 408 in the House.
- Remind them that New Hampshire’s constitutional carry law applies statewide — no special carve-outs for public college campuses that leave law-abiding citizens defenseless.

Be polite but firm: Our rights are non-negotiable, and the Senate’s past failures this session will not be forgotten at the ballot box.
