MACDONALD: Interacting with Law Enforcement after a Self Defense Incident.

Here are some helpful lessons or reminders sent by one of our readers on how to engage law enforcement after a self-defense incident.

Someone attacked you or your family, or a life was in danger. You drew your weapon, perhaps fired it. It seemed like the right thing to do at that moment, but no one else knows except perhaps you and the dead or injured perpetrator.

The system will perceive them as the victim by habit, even if they are on your foyer floor next to a busted-in door, so everything that happens after that matters.

The same rules apply whether you are in a controlled private environment or out in the naked world. Everyone and everything is about to contaminate your crime scene.

What do you do?

In this short clip, the world-renowned firearms expert and self-defense instructor Massad Ayoob paints the picture and explains the steps you need to follow after a self-defense incident.
