ANNOUNCEMENT: We Turned Guest Commenting Off (Again!)

I’d like to invite past commenters who were driven off by trolling to come back into the ‘Grok Comment ‘ pool. I turned guest commenting off (again). I wanted it to work. Let more people have the opportunity to remark. But all it did was collect shit and flies.

Not every guest commenter was an annoying troll, but enough of them were; the complaints have piled up, and we are done with that.

Anyone wishing to comment on GraniteGrok.com will need to set up a Disqus account, which allows us to block or ban abusers, trolls, and losers.

It may also address the rising AI bot problem. Without guest posting, actual accounts need to be set up, so we’ll see how that goes.

We do value your input, but you’ll need to commit. We have had to turn them off several times over our 20 years, so this is nothing new.

And while a new commenting system might not affect the likelihood of trolls or whoever, it will get us away from Disqus, which more than a few of our readers will never sign up to use, which is why we turned guest comments back on.

When I announced a move to a new website and platform, a new commenting system was included. The cost and the effort required to ensure all existing comments stayed put meant it had to wait.

I am not presently in a position to cover the cost, but I am prepared to revisit options to get us off Disqus and into something else.

Stay tuned.
