What sorcery is this? A crazy headline about zero abortions. You’d be right to wonder. After all, the people who want abortions (and demand transparency from everyone else) don’t want them tracked. It’s like the Chinese mobile execution vans. They are rumored to be out there. But anyone who gets a t-shirt that says “I was executed and my organs stolen in a Chinese murder van” is cremated wearing it, so no one ever sees it.
The Left would like abortions to be the same. Legal, state-managed, and more accessible than Starbucks or Dunkins. And federally funded gift cards. You’re next abortion is on us. And the one after that. But don’t talk too much about how many. The less reporting, the better, and lord help us, no one needs actual medical backup if something goes sideways. Aborting the mother in the process is just another step forward for the depopulation cult.
Zero Abortions
Lifesite News reports that, according to the South Dakota Department of Health, zero abortions were performed “at brick-and-mortar facilities in the state.”
Immediately after Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022, the state prohibited abortion from conception except in cases where a continued pregnancy would threaten the life of the mother(SD. §22-17-5.1).
The data published by the state does not include the total number of abortions obtained by South Dakota residents out of state or the number of self-managed abortions performed by women outside of the healthcare system. The report also does not contain the total number of mail-order abortion drugs obtained by South Dakota residents prescribed by licensed abortionists in other states with shield laws.
But South Dakota isn’t exactly abortion free. The same report includes data on abortion tourism to neighboring states as well as estimates on chemical coathanger at-home abortions. “#WeCount reported that abortion drugs were mailed to 350 South Dakota women.”
In 2024, Guttmacher estimated that 460 South Dakota women traveled out of state to obtain abortions. For the number of abortions obtained by South Dakota women in other states according to Guttmacher, see the following table:1
States Traveled to by South Dakota Women # of Abortions Obtained by South Dakota Women Who Traveled to Other States to Get Abortions, 2024 Colorado 130 Minnesota 330 Total 460
South Dakota has a population of 886,000 (US Census 2021). 75.5% are over the age of 18. 451,000 residents are women. About half of those are child-bearing age, roughly 220,000.
Approximately 0.368% of those South Dakota women may have had an abortion in 2024, just not in an abortion facility in the state.
More Than Zero
That’s not zero abortions, but it’s a big step in the right direction. Many lives were saved or, as likely, women took responsibility for their bodies before they got pregnant.
And 810 women out of a population of roughly 220,000 may have attempted to end a pregnancy where the physical life of the mother was not threatened. That’s not perfect, but it’s not a bad start. A quick search found older data that put some state averages at 1-3% of women in them having abortions.
You have to change the culture to achieve zero wanted or zero performed to save the mother’s social life.
And while outfits like Planned Parenthood appear to suffer from this decline (a good thing), mail-order options and abortion tourism have become popular alternatives for women who are still captured by that death party culture.
Life begins and is lived uninterrupted from the point of conception until natural death. There is no life before conception and no life without it. Until people agree to that, accept it, see it, and feel it, the depopulationists will continue to mess with people’s heads and convince women, a majority of whom are minorities, to kill their unborn babies.
When that stops, we can talk about zero abortions.
