N.H. Republican Power Broker Says NO Trump, NO Cruz – Promises Brokered Convention
So says former New Hampshire Republican governor Judd Gregg, a longtime and highly influential Republican power broker in the Granite State who during an interview with Neil Cavuto on the Fox Business network this morning declared all current polling in New Hampshire to be null and void, and the likelihood of anti-establishment GOP front-runners Donald Trump or Ted Cruz winning New Hampshire as unlikely.
Well, that will be of matter of opinion and most of them not your’s. Be that as it may, though, it’s that last part about the convention that should be most concerning – a very good application of the Progressive “tell” – ‘we know what is best for you’. Which generally means “better for us, who cares about you and what you think”.
Then he dropped a bombshell that clearly had Fox Business host Neil Cavuto a bit stunned.
Gregg indicated it would be a brokered Republican convention regardless, and from there a proper candidate would be nominated.
Ah yes – just as we saw here in NH concerning the NH GOP Platform Principles that we little people can say what we want, vote on what we want, but it ain’t gonna matter until the Party ‘Leadership” decide that it is time (and that time to post it was AFTER the election so that their “proper” candidates could look good.
Because, as we all know, that was most important. Until it wasn’t as we “little people” said “Screw you, we don’t have to vote” and didn’t – and the NH GOP “proper” candidates got stomped on. Lesson learned? Apparently not.
This would be a process by which all previous primary election decisions would effectively be dismissed during the Republican convention scheduled for July 18th-21st in Cleveland, Ohio.
Delegates would then no longer be obligated to cast votes as determined by earlier primary elections. Instead, Republican power brokers are allowed to intervene and attempt to coordinate/trade/cajole/threaten, a desired outcome. In such a scenario, a majority of the convention delegates could for example, ultimately decide to nominate Jeb Bush to be the 2016 Republican candidate for President even if Mr. Bush did not win a single primary race.
And if that happens, you can be sure that he would end up like Presidents Ford, Dole, McCain, and Romney. Oh wait, they didn’t hold that title?
Again we see the hubris of the GOP Leadership – they keep forgetting this lesson:
Yet, some in the Party can’t under stand, grok it, and then act upon it. I tried to explain this to a female Republican of some note a bit ago:
Me: there are Republicans out there they are no longer voting nor donating to the Party. They’ve quit.
She: Well, why ARE they doing that?? Don’t they realize that this will allow Democrats to be elected?
Me: They no longer care
She: WHY don’t they care? Don’t they understand what this means for implemented policy, they are allowing Democrats to win??
Me: They realize that. They don’t care anymore.
She: They HAVE to care – Democrats will win if they just stay home. Don’t they realize that?
Me: You’re not listening to me, and haven’t been for a while. You have made them not care. Why SHOULD they care when Republicans do things at cross-purposes to what they say they stand for? Why should they support candidates that, in the end, don’t support their beliefs? When they don’t see their beliefs being advanced?
She: But Democrats will win?!?!?!
Me: Now you’re making me not care much. Whether you like it or not, whether you want to admit it or not (and I think you are at the point where you don’t want to SEE what they are saying), these people exist. They are dropping out, and you can’t seem face reality even when I put it in your face.
The long and short of it, you Republicans “of note”, the Establishment Republicans (or as I now say “Republican Republicans for the sake of the Party”), aren’t listening. They make it sound like they do, but they aren’t. How to tell? The voting data says the truth – these people have left. Stayed home. Sat on their hands. Kept their wallets shut. You may say what you want, but what the evidence says contradicts you. They are telling YOU their answer to your question of “where else will you go” – and now you aren’t listening to that answer either. Too bad.
You’ve told lots of folks: do it our way or go away. So, they’ve done what you’ve told them and have gone away. And now you don’t believe it. I’m telling you where they are going, and they are all telling you where to go, too.
They. Don’t. Care.
If this actually happens, a whole lotta people aren’t going to care anymore either. They will drop out because you have told them they don’t matter. Remember, they don’t HAVE to vote for your “proper” candidate even if you say they have to.
Just shag it.
