There’s a reason why “omnibus” bills are passed and sign by Republicans in DC (ostensibly, the Party of less government and lesser spending) – so they can appear to be FOR those two things and then pass the Fusion Party’s actual spending agenda. Sure, they enacted the Sequester that actually cut spending and held the line, but just voted to undo that restriction. And now we are about to reap that unboundedness and this time, given that the bill originated the the US House where newly coronated US House Speaker oversaw its passage, we can lay this all on the Republicans (emphasis mine, reformatted):
The tax-cut deal inked by President Obama and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan last month has put a major dent in the federal budget, helping send the deficit soaring by 24 percent, the Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday. The $544 billion deficit projected for 2016 marks the first year since 2009 that the red ink has grown, and it powers the deficit back up over the half-trillion mark, where it had been for most of Mr. Obama’s tenure.
And Ryan and the other Rs have just made that debt sack on our backs just that much heavier. And thanks to Kelly Ayotte as well, who voted for it. And it will get worse:
And the rest of the decade will only get worse, the CBO said, with Social Security beginning to draw down its trust funds in 2018, and overall deficits surging back above the $1 trillion mark by 2022.
And this is the absolute “rich” part of it all:
Struck by the grim news, budget watchdogs said politicians needed to heed the wake-up call. “Turning a blind eye to the problem, as so many congressional and presidential candidates have done, merely means they are passing the buck to the next generation as concerns about political damage outweigh policy advantages,” said Steve Bell, senior director of economic policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center.
Riiiiight. Funny, that. This slow roller of a man-made financial debacle has been around for, oh, almost forever? It’s not like this hasn’t been talked about ad nauseum for the last decade. The TEA Party came about, in part, because of the absolute financial stupidity by our “Best and Brightest”. Every campaign, we hear it from the Rs that they will fix them.
Sorry, the Trust factor left the barn a long time ago after you blew up the doors. And y’all wonder why, as you stare into your Dollar Bill Mirrors without understanding that YOU are the problem and we have seen your fecklessness in even do anything – well, except to make it worse.
But spending and taxes remain the biggest problem for the budget, with the twin deals at the end of last year to break the sequester budget caps that had held spending in check, and to extend a series of special interest tax breaks. Combined, they meant the government needed more money than ever — but had less flowing in. Overall, spending will spike by 6 percent in fiscal year 2016, to reach $3.9 trillion. That amounts to 21.2 percent of the country’s output as measured by gross domestic product. By contrast the government will collect just $3.4 trillion in taxes, or 18.3 percent of GDP.
It isn’t just we ordinary people that need to go on diets. Hey, do you EVER really think about that whole “limited government” I keep hearing from your flapping gums as you actually flap those gums? And you wonder why Trump and Cruz are beating your hand picked ones?
This year, that trickle will become a flood. Most of the increased spending will come from the government’s health programs, including Medicare, Medicaid and Obamacare, which will surge $104 billion, or 11 percent, compared to 2015.
And wasn’t it Obama and the Democrats who PROMISED us that Obamacare would allow us to keep $2500 / year in saved healthcare premiums and would cut the deficit forever?
But instead of letting the Democrats stew in their own juices, the Republicans just added more stock to the crockpot – and turned up the heat.
Yes folks, we are in the best of hands….
