On Meet The Press this past Sunday, host Chuck Todd asked GOP Chair Reince Prebus about rumors that The Donald might skip out and run as a thir party candidate:
If you are going to run for the nomination of our private organization which is the Republican Party that it only makes sense that you at #1 agree the Republican would be better than a Democrat running on the other side and that you wouldn’t run as a third Party because I think a third party, at least a serious one on either side of the aisle, would be a death wish to both parties.
This statement really didn’t make much sense two ways:
- “would be a death wish to both parties“. If you are running as a third party, of COURSE you want the other parties dead – that’s the whole purpose of running. One person wins and the other is politically dead (for a while, anyways). What other reason would there be?
And if you really look at results, a third party generally only kills ONE other party (e.g., Ross Perot killed the Republican Party, not the Democrats).
- “Republican would be better than a Democrat“. Er, no. We’ve talked about a LOT of Republicans who vote WORSE than Dems here in NH when using the Platform or the ideas concerning Liberty (expanding or limiting individual freedoms). So no, this doesn’t hold water either. But one would expect such chest beating from the GOP head honcho. But that is exactly what it was – chest beating.
Just STOP with this nonsense, please?
