And that would be Glenn Beck – Allahpundit reports and then opines:
… And who can blame him after the big cave on executive amnesty? Remember, the DHS funding debacle wasn’t just a Republican capitulation to Obama on separation of powers. It was a sham from the beginning, a bogus fight the GOP set up to show conservatives that they’re pretend-serious about resisting Obama but don’t quite have the numbers to force a meaningful confrontation on the issue … even though they now hold a majority of seats in both chambers. How do you keep a party together when the leadership disdains its own base and their priorities and the base knows that and disdains them right back? Is there anything holding it together at this point beyond the simple math involved in coalition-building?
And then he uses one of my questions (“we may not win but you will surely lose”) using different words:
GOP minus tea partiers equals President Hillary, right?
All I have heard from the GOP since becoming politically active is that you have to win the mush middle – the folks that don’t follow politics until Voting day but the effort is made to attract them. That said, the success that the Democrats have had is the opposite – not the middle but those pre-disposed for the Left but just haven’t voted (which still includes a lot of Low Information Voters). Yes, part of the Democrat base that didn’t realize they were the Democrat base.
On the other hand, the GOP has done a lot to make Allahpundit’s words come true (even, perhaps, for the replacement for Hillary). THEIR inactive base did become activated, but on their own when the TEA Party movement gathered steam under Obama’s compression of politics. So, did the GOP rejoice when those reinforcements arrived?
Er, that would be a big NOPE for after awhile they realized that while they did vote for Republicans, they weren’t “traditional” Republican Republicans for the sake of the Republican Party. For goodness sake, they ACTUALLY BELIEVED THE GOP WOULD KEEP THEIR PROMISES and their actions would reflect their verbiage. 2010 was a disappoint and now 2014’s election, here in NH and in DC, is turning out to be a bust, courtesy of the Establishment spineless wonders that keep mistaking the word “fight” for “light” – and keep turning that off as well.
I expect that the TEA Party will start to Shrug soon and then the GOP will have no one to blame but itself for opportunities lost.
Now, I do take some issue with where Allahpundit projects things would go:
I take Beck at his word, but as for the millions of grassroots righties who’ll be pumping their fists and shouting “yeah!” as they listen to this, let me tell you what I’ve learned from blogging two presidential election cycles. Not only will they not leave the party, even if Jeb Bush is the Republican nominee, by next summer they’ll consider it treason to the cause of conservatism if a RINO like me decides that I’m staying home in November because it doesn’t much matter which royal family’s princeling actually assumes the throne. Team Blue will smear Team Red many times in many ways during the campaign and Prince Jeb will say all (or most) of the right things to convince righties that we could do worse, just like we could have done worse than McCain or Romney, and that combination of partisan anger and ideological interest will gradually transform the next election into The Most Important Election of Our Lifetimes, a contest in which no true patriot can remain neutral.
The time for “least worse” is over – and the chuckleheaded leadership in Concord (the Democrat appointed Speaker Shawn Jasper) and the Boehner / McConnell Bobbsey Twins are showing us how witless “least worst” choices can be. With such poor results thus far, I’ve been shown little difference. No fight, no results. This is what would have us vote for a Jeb that is tracking inline with what Hillary’s stances are (immigration, Common Core, Amnesty….)
