Already at or coming soon to a local legacy news outlet near you: OMG! New Hampshire (New England) is warming faster than some arbitrary number set by Marxists at the UN. Maybe even twice as fast!
Someone did a study to show how New England is warming more quickly than the global average.
The study finds that since 1900 the average annual temperature in New Hampshire increased by 1.73 degrees Celsius, already surpassing the 1.5-degree cap established in the Paris Climate Accord, a goal that almost 200 countries agreed to in 2015, in order to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. And the New Hampshire winter has warmed even more, with the average winter temperature climbing 2.50 degrees Celsius in that same timeframe.
If we go back 122 years ago to 1900, New England was primarily agricultural with very few urban heat islands, and those it did have were small. Today, significant swaths of New England – especially spreading out from Boston, are nothing but an urban heat island.
Why wouldn’t that affect the average temperature? Well, it would! As the urban areas expanded, the average temperature would go up.
Though a lot different and much more rural, New Hampshire still has added a lot more concrete and asphalt in places where they continue to measure the temperature. Airports, for example, are or are surrounded by urban heat islands.
These skew the data to the warm side making estimates challenging to take seriously, and they skew it a lot, though not as much as researchers or the media, as Tony Heller archives here: According to all these headlines, everywhere is warming twice as fast as everywhere else. That means we’re just the latest target audience for the same global lie.
But back to Urban heat islands. In the cited research, the temperature reference points used are Keene, Durham, and Hanover, New Hampshire.
I don’t even have to look. All three of these places are much more urban than they were 122 years ago but so what, you say. We’ve just ended a decades-long Solar Maximum. Of course, it got warmer, and it did.
The top of Mount Washington, which has a little bit more concrete than it did in 1900, has an actual weather station on top of it. That station shows 0.83 degrees on average since 1935. That’s .67 degrees lower than the entirely arbitrary but blessed 1.5 degrees cited in the local scaremongering media.
And yes, that researcher is using 21 extra years of heat-island numbers while we’re using 35 fewer years on top of the mountain with some of the world’s worst weather. I’d call it even, but it’s not.
We just entered a grand solar minimum which only matters if the data we collect is not at stations surrounded by a city or a concrete campus surrounded by a city. These places distort the temperature in significant ways in favor of the Climate Cult, which, ironically, should still mean nothing.
Not a single thing they propose to fix whatever it is… will do anything to fix that. All it does is socialize the government and make life harder for everyday people. A lot harder than a New England that’s a few degrees warmer. A change that would make our state more like what, Ohio or Virginia?
You want to redirect billions of other people’s dollars to try and stop that?
Screw you all the way around.
Oh, and not for nothing, but the Arctic now has more sea ice than it had 100 years ago, not that it matters.
