Twenty-eight Republicans joined all the Democrats, the avowed Socialist and an independent to vote for cloture on the S. 744, the gang of eight’s Comprehensive Immigration Bill. These twenty-eight include many disappointments. Senator Ayotte had previously announced that she would abandon over-taxed, over-victimized, and under-employed Americans in favor of special interest groups and law breakers. Senator Rubio, who told us repeatedly that he would not support a bill that did not require enforcement first, told a Spanish language news outlet over the weekend that legalization will come first before enforcement… he voted for cloture. Apparently not wanting Senator Rubio to be the only one to shoot his Presidential ambitions in the foot also voted for cloture. It is nice of these Presidential wannabees to show their colors early and start to reduce the pool of Senators that I might support for President.
Amidst the Republicans voting for cloture were the normal RINOs plus some surprises, Johnson, Toomey, Cornyn, Thune, Hatch, and McConnell. Any Republican who voted for cloture on this bill can expect a primary challenge in the next election.
Among the Senators that we can rely on to put the interests of our country and the American people ahead of the special interests and therefore vote “No” on this cloture motion, there were some pleasant surprises.
