What Kind of Re-education Shall be Proposed for the NH Democrats?

by

On Wednesday of this week, the New Hampshire House will formally adopt rules for the current biennium. As part of that process, the Democrats will again propose that all New Hampshire House members be required to attend a mandatory sexual harassment training.

House Democrat Marjorie Smith has been pushing for another mandatory training requirement as well: “Unconscious Bias Training.”

Apparently, the thought process goes something like this: “If only we could fix the way these nasty, mean-spirited Republicans think, then surely the world would be a better place.”

Representative Smith explained why this is so important: “Unconscious bias training is an attempt to address [the fact that we don’t know what we don’t know] so that we can say ‘I had no idea that I was offending you by doing what I routinely do.’”

That left me thinking: “If unconscious bias is a cure for behavior that offends me, then surely this could be a two-way street, right?”  After all, there’s a lot that the Democrats do and say that offends me. Maybe training could be the solution!

So here is my question to the GraniteGrok readers: “If you could propose some mandatory training for New Hampshire House Reps, what would it be?”

Should we require mandatory training on the United States Constitution? Maybe also the New Hampshire Constitution?  After all, aren’t these people sworn to uphold those things?

Should Representatives be schooled in the finer points of free speech protections under the First Amendment of the US Constitution?  Maybe that could have prevented embarrassing episodes like this.

What about the Second Amendment? I’ve heard that’s part of the US Constitution, and apparently, the NH Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms as well.  Should we require all Representatives to attend mandatory training on the Second Amendment?  Maybe with live-fire practice as well? Is it possible that we could even cure the Democrats’ “unconscious bias” against guns?

Imagine that!  After an hour or two of training, we could all be singing Kumbaya and unleashing 50-cal happiness on giant buckets of Tannerite. Our political differences would just melt away. Because training!

So please get busy in the comments section.  Let us know what kind of training you think the NH House members should be forced to attend.  Perhaps a sympathetic House member might even bring some of those suggestions as amendments to the proposed rules in Wednesday’s House session!
