Who happens to be the Governor of Colorado:
The new safer-at-home order is in effect through at least May 27, meaning that Coloradans are expected to stay close to home past Memorial Day, the unofficial start of the summer and a popular weekend for camping and hiking. The fear is that visitors will either contract or spread the virus in areas of the state not as well equipped to deal with mass infections.
“You made the sacrifice of staying at home for 32 days,” Polis said at a news conference on Monday. “I think you can make the sacrifice of going to your second or third favorite park for another month.”
I very much try NOT to use gutter language either in my spoken language or writing style but I’m starting to be at a loss for words over and over again. Being the son of fishing vessel captain, I’ve heard most of them. The ONLY word I can think of that actually and adequately describes this attitude is that word used when breaking a balloon with a pin by pricking it. Without the last three letters, that is.
A sacrifice is something that one does voluntarily. You do it for yourself (I’m sacrificing that chocolate bomb cake dessert for my waistline) or others (“Greater love hath no man than this that one lay down his life for his friends”). Once again, we see yet another politician, in this case Colorado Jared Polis, use the vocabulary of the voluntary to mask the words of the mandatory. It’s the typical deflection from “I’m making you do this, like it or not” to “hey, feel good about giving up something”.
I know a person here in town (in fact, I worked for him long ago) and his life IS the woods – backbacking all over the nation in the wilderness and mountains, taking care of trails, teaching woodcraft to younger people Smart guy and could have made a lot of money in the IT world. But that wasn’t what he wanted in life. If I remember right, he’s been in Colorado as well.
A patient person (past that proverbial “almost to a fault”); I’m betting that if he lived out there he’d be close to explode-mode by now. But to Polis, it’s merely a throw away line.

Every other organizing principle for society begins by denying this fundamental truth about humans: You don’t know what’s best for me, and I don’t know what’s best for you.
Yet, politicians of both stripes believe that THEY do and YOU don’t.
