Signs ‘o the times?

Gov Lynch

Lynch Mob

Well, perhaps, but only if the Republicans put up some REAL, electable candidates for the next election, if it’s not too late. Ones with the brass it will take to do the necessary work of undoing all the garbage that has been strewn across our once great state. Democrat-lite, as offered by the moderates and RINOs isn’t going to cut it this time…

Lori comments she made to the Union Leader article on the passage of the same-sex marriage bill said it best:
I am blown away by the comments about this article. I am furious that there are still such narrow minded, egotistical, ignorant and just plain stupid people in the world! So what if someone is gay and chooses to marry their partner, and you’re a hetrosexual. Tell me, what direct effect does that decision have on your life? NOTHING! It is not about you and your beliefs! Live and let live! For goodness sakes! I don’t care who anyone wants to marry or for what reasons, all that matters is that they make each other happy and take care of each other. I am a heterosexual, married women with two teenage children who I have taught that no one, and I mean no one has the right to judge another! PERIOD! Unless someone is directly effecting my life or that of my family, I don’t care what they do! Pretty soon there will be groups against blondes marrying brunettes, redheads marrying blondes, blue eyed people marrying green eyed people, etc. Can you see where this is going? How juvenile this whole thing is? Let people live their lives as they see fit as long as it does not directly effect you or yours, why do you care? And yes I am catholic and yes I go to church and YES I believe in gay marriage! And you know what, I only have to answer to one … and when I do get the privilege of meeting HIM/HER that is to who I need to be concerned about how I am judged, not by anyone else. Maybe the rest of you ignorant and judgemental people should start focusing on yourselves and your family life and stop worrying about what your neighbors are doing!

Putney–find a dictionary. Look up the word, “standards”. Get back to us when you understand what they are and why they are important.

  • ECM

…and I mean no one has the right to judge another! PERIOD!
Hmm, does anyone else detect the thick, delicious, irony when a statement like this is surrounded by heaping hlepings of self-righteous judgmentalism? Maybe you should give up Catholicism and see about becoming a fire ‘n’ brimstone preacher in the deep south. (That or a politician where hypocrisy is the highest virtue one can practice.)

  • Putney

You haven’t answered this: Tell me, what direct effect does that decision have on your life? NOTHING! It is not about you and your beliefs!

  • ECM

I’ll answer as soon as you explain how it is that, on the one hand, you are allowed to judge people with a brickbat, while, out of the other side of your mouth, condemn anyone that doesn’t agree with you and then, with a straight face, chatise those you disagree with as having no right to ‘judge’ anyone…I mean, seriously, your original post is one for the irony hall of fame.

Your defenses are crumbling. First former Vice President Dick Cheney says he’s in favor of gay marriage. Now former U.S. solicitor general under President George W. Bush Ted Olsen is in favor of same-sex marriage: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=105064974
    You deal with it.

  • Chairm

ECM, don’t hold your breath for a subtantive response. Putney exemplifies the sort of stuff that persuaded Lynch to abandon his promises to the people who voted to elect him. It does not have to make sense. And so it doesn’t. Heh.

  • Putney

My postings indicate why you don’t make sense. More and more people, including those that have been reliably conservative such as Cheney and Olsen are disagreeing with you. Why are they wrong and why are you right?

  • Chairm

SSM argumentation is wrong and elides the actual disagreement. On what basis do you say that Cheney is right? Please accurately restate Cheney’s actual position, if you can.

  • Putney

No – why do you think your beloved pro-torture Dick Cheney is wrong?

  • Putney

And lest you think there is monolithic Republican opposition to SSM, check former Republican Governor Walter Peterson’s op-ed in favor of SSM: http://www.cmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090608/OPINION/906080310/1028/OPINION02

Support for marriage (as opposed to so-called “gay marraige”, which is neither gay nor marriage) cuts across ideological and party lines. At the ballot box, more liberals and moderates, combined, have voted for marriage amendments/ measures than against; more Democrats and Indpedents, combined, have voted for marriage amendments/ measures.
In California, exit polls indicate that there were sufficient self-identified homosexual voters who voted for the marriage amendment that they provided the more than half the margin of victory. Likewise, the self-identified irreleigious voters provide more than the margin of victory.
Not all Republicans accurately represent their constituents on this issue. There is nothing about membership in the party that dictates which way an individual would go on this issue. On the other hand, the Democratic party in New England states has been twisting arms and applying intense top-down pressure on elected representatives to go against their constituents and favor the identity politics of the SSM campaign. Some politicans are more susceptivel to this sort of nonsense; unfortunately the pool of such politicians is remarkably larger among those affiliated with the Democratic party.
Meanwhile, Putney, on what basis do you say that Cheney is right? Please accurately restate Cheney’s actual position, if you can.
If you cannot, remain silent and concede the point. Thanks.

  • Chairm

Clarification: At the ballot box, more liberals and moderates, combined, have voted for marriage amendments/ measures than have conservatives; more Democrats and Indpedents, combined, have voted for marriage amendments/ measures than Republicans.

  • Putney

I saw Cheney’s interview – did you? Enough said. You would like nothing better than to silence me. As for pressure – don’t you think it is odd that Bishop McCormick called every Catholic Rep and Senator asking them to vote against the marriage bills while he has remained silent on the pedophilia scandal? Which is more dangerous to society and to religion?

  • Chairm

I had said: “Meanwhile, Putney, on what basis do you say that Cheney is right? Please accurately restate Cheney’s actual position, if you can. If you cannot, remain silent and concede the point.” Putney, that request is not an attempt to silenc you. If you misread comments in discussion, then, you are not to be trusted with accurately representing Cheney or anyone else. Maybe not even yourself: No one has tried to silence you, quite the opposite in fact, but now you have chosen to keep your silence on this point and thus you have conceded. Thanks.
