All the best totalitarians are doing it, and now so are the wannabes. Doing what? Digital ID Baby. It’s cool, jazzy, hip, and Keir Stammer says you’ll need one if you think you’re going to have a job in the UK. Sounds a lot like COVID, yes? Natural human rights? Not so much. The nation that gave us Blackstone, Locke, Burke, and America’s founding fathers has dropped all pretense.
The problem of illegal mass migration, which the UK and EU elites created, will be resolved with a digital ID. If you were in any way conspiratorial, you’d think they allowed one to beget the other.
Addressing the Global Progressive Action Conference in London – attended by politicians including Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney – Sir Keir said it was time to “look ourselves in the mirror and recognise where we’ve allowed our parties to shy away from people’s concerns”.
“It is not compassionate left-wing politics to rely on labour that exploits foreign workers and undercuts fair wages,” he said.
“The simple fact is that every nation needs to have control over its borders. We do need to know who is in our country.”
In a conversation following his speech, Sir Keir said he wanted the next election to be an “open fight” between Labour and Reform UK.
In response to the prime minister’s speech, Reform UK said the public was “waking up to the fact Starmer is just continuing the Tory legacy of high taxes and mass immigration”.
Digital ID is the gateway drug to social credit scores and government control of everything. And while the UK isn’t like China – there’s no mass immigration to China – the constables on patrol have been sweeping up people for exercises of free speech that would have them all sued blind in the US. But there are no such rights in the UK, and what of them there are is about to make the air even thinner.
Digital ID will ensure this.
My other thought is that, since you can’t have a job without a digital ID, does that count if your Job is living on the dole? The UK has done a fine job of creating safety nets that look more like overcrowded buses teetering along cliffside roads in some third-world toilet. I don’t imagine you’ll be able to access the taxpayer-funded goodies, including the National Health Service, without a digital ID.
Announcing his plans for the new digital IDs, Sir Keir said the scheme would “make it tougher to work illegally in this country, making our borders more secure”.
He added: “It will also offer ordinary citizens countless benefits, like being able to prove your identity to access key services swiftly – rather than hunting around for an old utility bill.”
So, yeah!
Jones, who is the PM’s chief secretary, said: “If we get this digital ID system working and the public being with us, that will be the bedrock of the modern state and will allow for really quite exciting public service reform in the future.”
Is anyone outside Labour excited about it?
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said the plan would “do nothing to stop the boats” but would “end up being used against law-abiding citizens while crooks walk free.”
Given how the previous system was bastardized, I’d be surprised if the people meeting the boats didn’t hand out digital ID to whoever washes ashore. And when the foreigners take over, they’ll have one of the preeminent means on the planet by which the Sharia police can “manage” the infidels.
All in due time, of course.
