[DOWNLOAD THE AUDIO FILE HERE: http://www.johnmccain.com/Downloads/wra110108.mp3 ]

Good morning, this is John McCain, speaking to you just 72 hours before the time for choosing.

Presidential elections have a way of settling on a few great questions as the moment of decision arrives, and this has happened in the closing days of the election of 2008.

We’ve learned that Barack Obama’s economic plan for America to redistribute the wealth of America with higher taxes. It took a working man in Ohio to finally get him to explain his economic plan in plain language. Senator Obama wants to "spread the wealth around." He thinks that your job is to earn wealth, and the government’s job is to spread it.

I reject the ideology of redistributing wealth, and I always have. I believe that the only way to pull our economy out of this terrible time of worry and hardship is to spread opportunity. Low taxes reward effort and create jobs. We’re going to double the child deduction for working families. We will cut the capital gains tax. And we will cut business taxes to help create jobs, and keep American business in America.

At the same time, I’m going to make government finally live on a budget, just like you do, and I am going to enforce that discipline by the power of veto.

My fellow Americans, we’re going to get through this present economic crisis. And we will even come out stronger — without the corruption and arrogance that have overtaken both Washington and Wall Street. We’re going to pull through these hard times — and do it together, just as our country has done before.

And when that day arrives, we will find awaiting our country all of the same great challenges and dangers that were there all along. At a time when the jobs and financial security of our people seem at risk, it is hard to spare much thought even for the great and abiding concerns of this nation’s security, and the security of our friends and allies across the world. But these dangers have not gone away while we turned our attention elsewhere. And the next president will meet no greater test than defending America from these threats.

McCain: “Anytime you hear talk of a targeted tax increase, you might want to double-check the skill of the marksman…”

John McCain

John McCain’s Weekly Radio Address (click here to download mp3):

Good morning, this is John McCain, speaking to you just days away from the time for choosing.

In a time of economic hardship and uncertainty, for many Americans the choice will turn on whether we raise federal taxes or reduce them. My opponent is committed to a massive new tax burden on our economy, even at the risk of bankrupting small businesses and destroying jobs. I am committed to tax relief for working families and tax incentives for businesses to create jobs.

Senator Obama has been very guarded about his tax plans, and it took a working man to finally pull the truth out of him. As he told Joe the Plumber back in Ohio, he wants to quote "spread the wealth around." To pay for nearly a trillion dollars in new government spending, Senator Obama’s tax increase would impact 50 percent of small business income in this country, and the jobs of 16 million middle class Americans who work for those small businesses.

Senator Obama assures us that he has a very clear target of just the top five percent of income earners. And anytime you hear talk of a targeted tax increase, you might want to double-check the skill of the marksman — the U.S. Congress has been known to fire wildly. Remember the Alternative Minimum Tax? You probably do if you’re one of the more than 30 million Americans currently threatened by it. That "targeted tax" was originally aimed at just 155 specific people. Once enacted, taxes have a way of spreading and rising. And that is why, as president, I am going to put a stop to the out of control spending, so we can keep taxes low.

The McCain-Palin tax cut is the real thing. We’re going to double the child deduction for every family. We will cut the capital gains tax. And we will cut business taxes to help create jobs, and keep American businesses in America.

Obamanomics: Recipe for Long-Lasting Disaster

Obamanomics

by Amil Imani

Obama’s economic plan is a recipe for long-lasting disaster. Keep in mind that wrecking anything, as opposed to building things, requires very little time and effort. Obama’s plan is deceptively attractive, while in reality it is a huge wrecking ball that will capsize the already listing ship of our economy. Here is a partial list of reasons why. Judge for yourself.

Obama is proposing a trillion dollars in new spending. Where is he going to get the money, given the government’s present huge budget deficit? From the filthy rich and blood-sucking corporations, that’s where, he says. A terrific vote-getting scheme. But will it work?

Obama doesn’t tell you that in the present world money is like water. It flows to the lowest ground. And the lowest ground for money is found in places where it can make more money  — not locations where it is seriously tapped by government. For example, Ireland where the corporate income tax rate is 11% and not the United States, which has the second highest rate in the world. As it is, one of the biggest reasons that many corporations set up their businesses abroad is the high cost of doing business here at home. Hence, a great many jobs are lost to overseas enterprises.

Obama doesn’t tell you that rich people didn’t get to be rich by being stupid. The minute they hear him talk about "spreading the wealth around", they shift their money to safe havens where Obama can’t get to it. Like those hedge funds run by George Soros and other big Democrat donors.

Obama doesn’t tell you that much of the money invested in this country is from non-Americans, who do so not because they are philanthropists but because they believe in the American genius and our creative hard-working people who know how to produce wealth. Once they see Obama the taxman, they sell their holdings and move their money to safer havens. The result is that American company shares drop in value, companies won’t be able to raise cash to do product development, so they will shut down their research departments and layoff workers. Or, they simply move their entire operation, or parts of it, abroad.

The American economic genius is based on the principle of empowering people at all levels to succeed financially through their own efforts. The government must empower all individuals to succeed and not to take money from the successful and spread it around.

I’m Joe the Plumber (Part II) “It’s the socialism, stupid!”

Here’s a new ad from the McCain campaign:

And here’s my story. You see, I really am Joe the Plumber, too…

Hi, my name is Doug the welder. In many ways, I am like Joe the Plumber– Although I am at the point where I DO own my own business, and Joe isn’t quite there yet, the “dream” or goal of independence and self-reliance continues. Having started our small business with my wife during the recession of the late Eighties/early Nineties, we have long held the goal of  building an enterprise as nearly recession-proof as possible, and always tried to be as frugal during good times as in bad in order to stay as fiscally healthy as one could reasonably be. With a sound business model and good employees, we seem poised to ride out the current economic storminess. We know that it will require no small amount of work and yes, maybe (no- not maybe, definitely, because there ALWAYS is) even some heartache, along the way. That’s OK, as this is the essence of being a small business operator—and always has been. I suspect that Joe the Plumber is well aware of all of that—he has probably watched his boss encounter it all through the years—and yet, he still retains his dream. Why is that? Could it be that for him, like me, that his “pursuit of happiness” includes controlling his own destiny?

Democratic presidential wannabee Barack Obama tells everybody not to worry… only those making over $250,000 will pay more taxes. His running mate Joe Biden says he doesn’t know many plumbers that make over 250 grand. Of course, as always, the devil’s in the details. Now just so there’s know misunderstanding, I don’t “make” over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. As a matter of fact, there have been many times since 1989 that I didn’t make anything—and there were a few times where I actually lost money. But where we stand now, like any small business employing nine people with perks and benefits that owns the real estate (and pays those taxes too) and multiple machines and pieces of equipment (always subject to breakdown and repair costs), we “handle” far in excess of the figure being bandied about—but we don’t put much of it in our wallets—it’s always “in play.” This is where Joe the Plumber and Doug the welder are vulnerable—on the books we handle the money, but at no time is much of it really ours to keep. Of course, I won’t lie, and I’m sure I can safely bet that Joe, like me, and probably many of you reading this column, certainly would like to earn more than a quarter million dollars that we can keep and spend as we choose, someday. What’s wrong with that?

Of course there’s nothing wrong with that. And I, like Joe the plumber, know that attaining such a princely sum won’t be easy, because we both know that someone like the tooth fairy isn’t going to show up during the night and slip the cash under the pillow. If we are to earn that amount, we are going to have to take great risk, work extra hard, and sacrifice a bit of leisure and play time. In exchange for a willingness to do these things, we reap the fruits of our labors. This is the American way. Up until now, that is…

You see, Barack Obama’s going to change all that. Once in office, in concert with the Democratic-controlled Congress, President Obama and his sidekick Biden will see to it that things will be different from now on. Because in addition to Joe Biden stating his belief that is “patriotic” to pay taxes, we have found out, thanks to the answer given to Joe the Plumber’s question of Barack Obama, just what they have in store for those of us that work and strive to make money… what their promised “change” really means.

This is how John McCain told the story this past Saturday during his weekly radio address:

“Joe explained that he works for a small plumbing and heating company. He’s been thinking about maybe taking over the business when his boss retires. Problem is, that would make Joe one of millions of small business owners who face a sudden increase in taxes under my opponent’s tax plan.”

The One’s Henchmen

Obama.
rogues gallery
All the One’s Men

by Amil Imani

Decades ago Marshall McLuhan observed, "The medium is the message." As the print and electronic media penetrate more and more every aspect of life, their influence increases greatly in shaping the views and behavior of the public. The power of the media is a mixed blessing. On one hand, it can serve to expose injustices, wrongdoings, and flaws. On the other, it is able to propagate misinformation and outright disinformation.

Manipulation and control of the media is of critical importance to the rule of totalitarian states. Free societies, although less subject to laundered information, are still at considerable risk of being selectively informed or misinformed outright. The public can be deceived more easily by the overlords of the media when political correctness is used as subterfuge for promotion of certain ideas or certain people.

These are indeed trying times for the American people. Free people must decide their priorities with foresight and wisdom and shy away from shortsighted simplistic solutions. We live in a Democracy and Democracy, by its accommodating and benign nature, is susceptible to corruption and even destruction by forces from within and from without.

The Democrats have not gotten over the last two elections in which President Bush won. The left felt the presidency was stolen from Al Gore and John Kerry. Those losses caused most everyone on the left into a hate spiral, so severe is this hatred that Charles Krauthammer (who is also a trained psychiatrist) was compelled to diagnose it and give it a name: BDS — or Bush Derangement Syndrome. Now that they believe they have found their Messiah in the person of Barack Obama. Now they want "social justice," they want revenge.

What the left calls "social justice" is actually "the revenge of the psychologically oppressed against people who look happier and more satisfied with their lives." As such, it is intimately related to the psychoanalytic understanding of envy, which is an unconscious mechanism that goes about destroying what one does not have, in order to eliminate the emotional pain of not having it, says Gagdad Bob.

Today’s polls show that many Americans are unhappy with the Republican Party and that’s enough reason to vote for a Democratic ticket. Fine and dandy. This is America, where the voter is king, and when one is king, one needs to be a sane and wise king. When people hear the word "insanity," they conjure up the image of someone out of touch with reality and out of control, a dysfunctional person fit to be tied. Yet, insanity comes in numerous types as well as degrees. It is also widely prevalent in groups, even in nations as a whole.

One common and troubling form of insanity is, "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results," warned Albert Einstein. America has already tried the path to insanity by electing Jimmy Carter as its president and he failed us miserably. Now, repeating this insanity by electing Mr. Obama is a national disaster.

Senator Obama’s greatest weakness is his past, a deliberately obscured past that MSM is fiercely trying to make look irrelevant. He, as a sequacious politician, always toes their party’s line. Regrettably, a large segment of the population goes along with some irresponsible leftists such as Bill Maher, (a humbug), who, in March 2, 2007 stated, "I’m just saying if he [Dick Chaney] did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact."

Please let me assure you, I do not say that Mr. Obama is a bad person. I say he’s not the right person for America. He would lead this country to an abyss. The presidency of the United States is a very prestigious position which entails a great deal of skill, wisdom and high moral values. It cries out for integrity and truthfulness. Although the American presidency has not been invested with the same degree of glory as a monarchy has, the American people have upheld the office to a mythic status and hold its resident in reverent awe.

In comparing the two presidential candidates, it appears that many people see John McCain as a true American and Barack Obama as a true politician. However, in this race and in our era of uncertainty, more than anything else, character does matter, experience does matter and yes, patriotism does matter. "When patriotism dies, the nation dies."

It is said that you can tell a great deal about people by the company they keep. And who has been Senator Obama’s close associates and mentors for many years, a partial list is given below:

Planetary President Obama

UN Council

Guest Post by Dr. Philip C. Bom

Senator Obama could well become our first planetary president.

Traditional bipartisan US foreign policy has been one of collective international security of independent nation states. In other words, nations cooperate together as independent countries to maintain international peace. This is in direct contrast to the world-order concept of “common security.”

Candidate Obama heralds change and hope, but his ideological message reads like a “copy and paste” from documents written by socialists of the past century. He presents himself as a new politician but has adopted an old “world order” agenda. Obama’s policies will certainly produce change—but a fundamental change which will shock most Americans.

The Democratic Party’s platform (authored by Senator Obama’s policy director) reads like a planetary manifesto for a new global order.

Senator Obama himself has said he seeks to provide “a world that stands as one” with “global leadership grounded in the understanding that the world shares a common security and a common humanity” (Berlin speech and Foreign Affairs article, July/August 2007, FA). As president, Obama promises to “strengthen our common security by investing in our common humanity.”

Obama adopts the old framework of international socialists. He jettisons the traditional meaning of security and adopts the view of democracy as social economic democracy. In his writings and speeches, Obama consistently calls for “building just, secure, democratic societies (FA).”

Senator Obama ties the concept of national security to global poverty. In the FA article, Obama claims that “the United States has a direct national security interest in dramatically reducing global poverty and joining with our allies in sharing more of our riches to help those most in need.” He has the audacity to proclaim:“Like it or not, if we want to make America more secure, we are going to have to help make the world more secure” (AH, 304). For him, global security means eliminating world poverty.

According to the 1995 Commission on Global Governance (CGG), “…the security of people must be regarded as a goal as important as the security of states.”  In addition, “The primary goals of global security should be … the security of people and the planet.” The Democratic Party platform adopts this definition of national security (encompassing environmental security). The platform proudly promotes “Protecting our Security and Saving our Planet” as if they are one and the same. “We understand that climate change is not just an economic issue or an environmental concern—this is a national security crisis.”

Yet, while Obama promises to protect the American people, how often does he promise to protect the USA as an independent nation state? Following the ideology of CGG, he blurs the distinction between our national homeland and “our human homeland.”

As noted, however, Obama’s political ideas are hardly novel. Concepts and phrases (e.g. common humanity; common security; one world; economic security) in his speeches and in the platform can be found in the agendas of international socialists like the late Willy Brandt and Olof Palme. Even Obama’s words of “change” and “hope” date back to 1981.

A few words with Charlie Bass about Obama and McCain, and how the differences in their policies affect us here in New Hampshire…

Charles Bass

Earlier today, GraniteGrok spoke with NH’s former 2nd District Congressman Charles Bass…

What are the key differences between John McCain and Barack Obama with regards to their solutions to the present economic woes that ordinary New Hampshire citizens– the "Joe the plumbers"– need to know?

There are 3 areas of concern with what Obama has in store:

  1. He proposes to raise taxes. This is EXACTLY the wrong thing to do in the present situation. This is not what he says in his rhetoric, but when you look at the details, many people will be paying more taxes in some form or other.
  2. He is looking to restrict free trade. New Hampshire is NOT Youngstown. Many small businesses are involved with and successful BECAUSE of free trade. You run a great risk of toning down successful NH businesses when you restrict free trade.
  3. He proposes to spend a trillion more dollars in addition to everything else, including the wars and economic bailout monies. He never answers the question of where the money is supposed to come from, other than he says he will end the war in Iraq. Of course, even the best estimates prioject that an "immediate" pullout still realistically leaves a significant number of troops there as late as 2012, so the anticipation of real savings is just a fantasy.

And of course, there’s a difference in how Obama and McCain would spend the relief money itself. Obama offers an impressive list of benefits to almost everybody, with large amounts to go directly to "working people." While trying to help such people isn’t in and of itself bad, you have to ask whether or not it’s what’s best to actually achieve the goal of fixing the broken economy.

John McCain believes that the steps taken should be those that seek to shore up and actually rebuild the economy as a whole– one that strengthens businesses– especially small business, which, here in NH provide the majority of our jobs– for the long term and provides good, stable jobs. This is what is of the greatest benefit for ordinary people.

The only proposal made by Obama that appears helpful to small businesses is his proposal to cut capital gains taxes for some, including startups. That’s fine, but capital gains are not the norm during startup times, when there is generally little to no money made at that point.

Perhaps at some risk, Senator McCain talks about cutting corporate tax rates and other taxes. This truly helps small businesses and allows those dollars to instead be left in the economy.

These are complicated issues that require underlying experience if we are to find solutions. Ask yourself– Do we need someone with a good tongue and a good speechwriter to produce "happy talk", or do we need someone that is honest and has the experience and depth to truly fix the present situation?  Senator McCain will balance the need for transparency and accountability while still maintaining America’s competitiveness. It’s a delicate thing, and the last thing we need is an Obama swinging a blunt bureacratic club on Wall Street, given today’s extremely complex and new economic conditions.

A recovering economy that brings along with it jobs means that business– especially small business– needs to thrive and prosper. In many cases today, American companies are competing in a globalized marketplace through both imports and exports. Tell us about the approach to trade taken by each of the candidates and which would be better for American businesses and their employees– especially right here in the Granite State…
