Despite Laws, Londonderry Council Postures Against LFGC

“”My door is always open-bring me your problems.” This is guaranteed to turn on every whiner, lackey and neurotic on the property.” —Robert F. Six

Demagoguery. Town officials told the Derry News that Town officials, police officials, Fish and Game Club members, and the public will be invited to a demonstration at the shooting range, to determine the effects that gunfire has on residents and golfers.

That has to be about the dumbest thing I have ever read. The obvious target are two ranges in question: The Londonderry Police Range, constructed in 2008; and the Londonderry Fish & Game Club Ranges, in existence for over 40 years.

All of this hullabaloo over range noise and never once has the ongoing conversation taken into account the miles of power line corridors frequently used for all sorts of activities such as OHRV use, Hiking, Hunting and yes, target shooting. Moreover, the 900-acre parcel also known as the Musquash Conservation Land, is frequented by those desiring to shoot.

Londonderry Country Club Seeks to Ban All Outdoor Shooting

“If you can keep playing tennis when somebody is shooting a gun down the street, that’s concentration.” —Serena Williams

DISCLOSURE: I am the current President of the Londonderry Fish & Game Club, Inc., in addition to being a writer for Granite Grok.

Jim Cates Pond at Londonderry Fish & Game Club, Inc. File: Rick Olson

Todays Edition of the Union Leader treated us to the pithy headline, Fairways Firing Ranges dont mix in Londonderry.  Interestingly enough, UL Correspondent April Guilmet, never contacted me for comment or input. She did today after the story was written and posted.

Bread and Circus: A cliché aptly suited in describing the Londonderry Town Council.

Council Chariman John Farrell (not the John Farrell of Country Pond Fish & Game) granted Londonderry Country Club Owner Tom Kimball his wish for the Council to hold a council meeting at the Golf Club. The purpose of which is that the council can hear the gunfire from the Londonderry Police Range..er, the Londonderry Fish and Game Club..wait? which is it, Tom? Ah! both.

Idiots And Cowards Who Complain About Gun Ranges

“Once you’re able to look like an idiot and be OK with it, it opens up your potential.” —Nicole Sullivan

Irascible Cowards are idiots willing to  spew their opinion as if it means something, is always a great source of amusement to me. And sometimes they do so anonymously. Such is the case with this Silly_E-mail I received this morning.

Such e-mails are instructive in helping the reader observe the depths of ignorance to which some have succumbed, in spite of  any tone, word usage or voice which might suggest otherwise.

The e-mail received is errant on two levels: factually and conceptually.  An argument could be made this particular entry is a waste of time…a, “suffering of fools,” if you will. I do think its necessary because tom-foolery like this is reaching epidemic proportions.  And if conversations with idiots are the order, then we need to present at least one intelligent side.

The mystery e-mailer refers to my previous entry, Anatomy Of Gun Range Neighbors, and she states,

Anatomy Of Gun Range Neighbors

“Complainers change their complaints, but they never reduce the amount of time spent in complaining.”  —Mason Cooley

Here we go again. Same old story. Same old lame complaints. The Monadnock Rod and Gun Club was established in 1947. This 65-year old club continues to do what it always has done: Operate shooting ranges. And, like any other Sporting Club, the amount and continuity of the sound of the shooting ambience, varies with time of season and number of events hosted at the club.In short, neighboring residents can reasonably expect to hear gunfire more during certain times of the year than other times of the year. And if they cannot live with that, then why on earth purchase a home in proximity to a shooting range?
