New Third Political Party Looks Like The Same Old Progressive Astroturf

No Labels and the Coffee Party were astroturfed movements from the last decade that tried to sell themselves as the reasonable middle. Not at all. Their members were grow-more-government Republicans (Democrats) who couldn’t find a home in the proper party.

Is Juan Valdez The Anti Christ?

Is Juan Valdez The Evil One?

(Repost: Originally posted Aug 17th, 2010 – What can I say, I like this one.)

I started drinking coffee at the age of six, not because my parents were irresponsible—they were in fact better people than I can ever hope to become—but because I spent an unusual amount of time in the company of coffee drinkers.  Both of my parents were recovering Alcoholics, (You are always recovering by the way) and both committed large portions of their lives to helping others cope with their disease.

Back in the 60’s and 70’s AA meetings had two very distinctive elements: cigarette smoke as thick as a London fog and coffee brewed endlessly in the largest attainable brewing device within driving distance.  While I am sure that the pall of smoke has today been relegated to a nearby alcove or outdoor “designated” smoking area, I suspect the coffee still runs like the bulls at Pamplona—every day of the year.  And apparently, the best way to fend off the contact buzz from the Stygian gloom of a nicotine cloud is to drink coffee in tiny foam cups with red plastic stirs that poke your fore-head as you try to slurp up the coffee flavored sugar ooze in the bottom.

Another Democrat Run Destination For ‘Independents.’

Can you smell it?  It’s called Ruck.us.   Ruck.us (http://www.ruck.us) is where the independents and other political inactivists will finally be able to gather online to talk about, organize, and get involved in whatever it is they believe in.  Right there at Ruck.us.  Of course I thought that was what the Coffee Party was for.  Then there was No Labels.   In NH we have the LFODA.  And don’t forget F*ck Tea.  There must be room for more of these groups.

But you know what?  I bet this time it is different.  I bet Ruck.us is not funded by Democrats. And it probably isn’t run by some crowd of entrenched progressives, and well connected left wingers like all those other so-called non-partisan, can’t we all just get along pretenders….except…that…it is.

Both of its founders have deep roots into the Democrat Party machine.

Coffee Party Needs More Prunes.

Apparently the post Tea Party, can’t we all just get along, moderate, reaching across the aisle movement had its big national Coffee Party Convention this weekend.

… (?)

Yeah, that’s what I said.

Hot Air has some actual video of a room (posted here on the jump) with a few people in it.  Looks like the seniors got lost on the way to the all expenses paid time-share weekend seminar, or maybe a bus or two missed Foxwoods and just kept going?  Like I said.  Big….national….convention. Big…..convention.

350 people showed up.

Is the Coffee Party Out Of Juice?

Nothing UnderneathI’m not surprised to hear this.  The coffee party (let’s call them CP) was doomed from the start.  Why?  It was a top down construction of left wing propagandists and those sorts of fabricated movements have needs that the CP could never hope to meet.

It had no core principles to stand on.  We know from the CP themselves (see here,) that there was a lack of issues focus but it’s a bigger problem than that.  Being a recovered moderate myself I can tell you that when what you think you believe cannot somehow be linked to some consistent metric or core value you don’t actually believe in anything.  You risk becoming a leaf and the wind that moves you is as capricious as your most recent whim–be it one that occurs to you on your own or something someone else (the media or a trans-formative figure for example) convinces you of from moment to moment.

Left without an anchor and lacking a reliable lens or filter, everything becomes subject to change; response is based on emotion or selfish wants and personal pleasure–the only answer to every question becomes “will this make me feel good about myself or is this good for me?”  But we already have a movement like that, it’s called the new democrat party.
