Welcome to your Monday, May 18th, 2026, morning update. Graham Platner has secured the Democrat nomination more or less to be his party’s representative this November for the US Senate seat currently occupied by Susan Collins.
Not exactly the best Republican, but she doesn’t have a Nazi tattoo on her chest that we know of. That tattoo has been troublesome for Platner, but since he’s the only one left in the race after Janet Mills was aged out by her own party, he’s the guy, and he’s getting attention, and it looks like they’ve been planning for him for six years. We need a lobster woman, AOC, the future of Maine politics. Quote, so what should the Maine Democrats do now? It is clear that elections cannot be bought in the state of Maine. Putting working-class candidates on the ballot could provide a path to victory. People who represent lower-income northern and rural Mainers, especially where precarious occupations such as lobstering and recreation dominate the economy.
Candidates who meaningfully engage in the activities in the state, as well as with policies such as Medicare for all which are broadly popular with independents, might make voting out someone like Collins seem like a risk worth taking in short as Fulford put it we need a lobster woman, AOC.
Well, they didn’t get a lobster woman; they got an oyster man instead. An oyster man with a Totenkopf tattoo on his chest. An oyster man who is not working class, because he isn’t.
His campaign website was created a year before his fake oyster man business. So this has been in the works for a while.
We’ve also learned through a search, and this is from Google. Okay, this isn’t just from anywhere. It’s from freaking left-wing Google. Democratic US Senate candidate Graham Platner’s parents are Bronson Platner and Leslie Harlow. While Platner has campaigned on a working-class oyster man image, his family comes from wealth and a background of privilege.
Bronson Platner is a longtime real estate and business attorney in Maine who operated his own law practice for over 30 years. He has provided Graham with significant financial assistance, including help purchasing his home and paying for expensive fertility treatments in Norway. Leslie Harlow owns and operates an upscale local restaurant that caters to summer tourists. She has been highly supportive of Graham’s political endeavors and is notably the biggest customer of his oyster farm. (clears throat)
In addition to his parents’ professional backgrounds, Platner’s grandfather was the renowned modernist architect Warren Platner.
