Today on the Morning Update, if you might be perceived as a burden, and the government gets to decide what that means, you might not be long for this world. Today’s example comes from Vancouver, where the caring health care professionals asked a priest with a broken hip if he’d like to commit suicide.

Welcome to your Monday, May 11th, 2026 Morning Update.,
Father Larry Holland, the Archdiocese of Vancouver in Canada, 79 year old priest, fell in his bathroom on Christmas Day 2025. He went to the hospital with his broken hip and was asked not once but twice if he’d like to kill himself.
The priest recalled how he could not believe that he was asked about assisted suicide. Despite staff at VGH knowing that he is a Catholic priest, he said he felt kind of silent after being asked by the doctor, who said that assisted suicide is something they have to discuss with someone who’s been given a terminal diagnosis. He broke his hip. Terminal diagnosis?
Father Holland, who has a background in healthcare chaplaincy, stated that he was very shocked by the offers, noting that he is not terminally ill and was recovering from a non-fatal injury. He emphasized that Catholic doctrine explicitly forbids euthanasia and suicide, viewing them as contrary to the dignity of the human person. Last time I checked, that was true for medical doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals as well. First, do no harm.
Apparently not in a public health system, first ask if they’d like to die because it’ll save the government a whole lot of money.
In response, Vancouver Coastal Health, which operates the hospital, stated the staff may propose MAID based on their clinical judgment if they possess the necessary skills.
Apparently, they don’t possess the necessary skills to know that not just a Catholic, but a Catholic priest, isn’t into suicide. But they asked him anyway. Why? Because he was 79 years old. Because he was old. He was old enough to kill.
But he may have another 10, 15, 20 years of life. He may even have a decent quality of life, even with a fixed, busted hip. And yet, that’s what they do in Canada. That’s what the socialist system has evolved to, or I should say devolved. If you cost too much, if you’re a burden of any kind, how about you kill yourself? Remember the slippery slope. It’s a very short distance from there, too.
We’re just going to kill you anyway.
Have a great day, we’ll talk to you tomorrow.
