Democrats keep finding the energy to get mad about everything, everywhere, all the time. They’re good at it, so this is like ‘Leg Day’ every day. The latest outrage is the neutering of AmeriCorps in its current form.
Several states have sued, including Vermont, but one of my earliest “political” exposures to AmeriCorps was when a bunch of them got busted for voting illegally, claiming they lived at a non-existent address in Bear Brook State Park. It’s the only thing, aside from wasting money, that I’m aware of AmeriCorps doing.
Somewhere, we have pictures or scanned copies of letters and envelopes from a few of them to the town clerk, asking to be removed from the voting list after their votes had been counted. Like the out-of-state college students, except the latter never has to say they were sorry.
So, AmeriCorps has done that while wasting a lot of money on overhead. And it’s not being erased, but states like Vermont are upset because they are losing another grant and cannot manage their finances well enough to fund it themselves. And what does that look like? According to a report by WCAX, about 6,600 college students have signed up over the past 30 years. That’s a few hundred a year at a cost of what?
A fraction of what Vermont wastes on administrative overhead in public schools?
You could figure it out if it mattered, and if it does, Middlebury College in Vermont has a 1.46-billion-dollar endowment. That’s with a B. In other words, I don’t need to pay for it.
And let’s face it, if progressives are whining about it getting a haircut, then it probably needs one.
And to be fair, I’m not saying AmeriCorps encouraged illegal voting, but someone in charge of them in the state got them to show up at the polls, register the same day, and provide the same fake address in a public park as their proof of domicile.
It wasn’t a Republican.
Just sayin.
