Initial step in promoting expanded Classical education options
ACTA Classical Schools Foundation, a new private charitable organization established two months ago to encourage new schools offering classical education, has selected Lionheart Classical Academy, a chartered public school in Peterborough, New Hampshire, as its first “Model School.” The Foundation determined that Lionheart Classical Academy, now completing its third year of operation, provides an example of successful classical education valuable to other new and early-stage classical schools. As part of its “Model School” designation, ACTA awarded Lionheart Classical Academy an unrestricted grant in recognition of its leadership, expertise, and assistance to emerging classical schools.
The mission of ACTA Classical Schools Foundation is to support the growth of classical education by providing financial assistance and mentoring to new and early-stage public and private classical schools as the best hope to improve American education.
In announcing the first “Model School” selection and grant, ACTA’s Chair, Kim Lavallee, noted the significance of the designation as a resource for new and early-stage classical schools.
“This is a first concrete step since formation of ACTA Classical Schools Foundation toward helping new classical schools through actions,” said Lavallee. “Designating Lionheart Classical Academy as a ‘Model School’ allows ACTA to leverage Lionheart’s experience and proven expertise to assist classical schools still working through the founding and early-stage processes.”
ACTA’s next initiative will be sponsoring promising new classical schools recently established or still in their early stages of operation. ACTA is currently conducting interviews with Sponsorship candidate schools and expects to provide financial support to selected classical schools in the form of matching or challenge grants or loans.
Commenting on this second initiative, Lavallee described ACTA’s objective as being to “share financial support and expertise with new schools offering classical education at the time when they need it most.”
ACTA anticipates announcing its first Sponsorship classical school(s) later this spring.
