OPINION: She’s Back! … The Return of #AmnestyAyotte

Do y’all recall when Kelly Ayotte ran, successfully, for U.S. Senator in 2010? She ran as a hard-liner on Illegal Immigration. She promised a secure border and to oppose amnesty. She even wanted to make English the official language and end birthright citizenship. But by 2013, Ayotte was supporting “comprehensive immigration reform,” which is that lovely euphemism for amnesty. The bill Ayotte supported would have granted asylum to an estimated eleven (11) million Illegals for the promise of future border security.

History is sort of repeating itself. In 2024, Ayotte ran for Governor as a hard-liner on Illegal Immigration, promising that she would never let New Hampshire become a “Sanctuary State.” Now, faced with plans by ICE to build a detention facility in Merrimack, Ayotte is tacitly opposing ICE.

From Ayotte’s mouthpiece, Mike Graham, at New Hampshire Journal:

Needless to say, Ayotte is trying to be on both sides of the issue. But while Ayotte won’t directly oppose an ICE facility in Merrimack, she intends to advocate for those in Merrimack who oppose the ICE facility. Sounds very John Kerry-esque … “I’m not opposing the ICE facility. I’m supporting the people who oppose the ICE facility.” #AmnestyAyotte is back.

One more thing. Ayotte’s hypocrisy cannot be overlooked. She is a rabid supporter of Koch-zoning … replacing local zoning with a one-size-fits-all State zoning code to allow developers (many of whom are her donors) to build apartment-complexes in cities/towns that don’t want to lose their rural character. Yet when it comes to the proposed ICE facility in Merrimack, Ayotte is all about “local control.”
