OPINION: “Grafton County Commissioners ‘Pass The Buck’ On Courthouse!”

After a lengthy Grafton County Commissioners’ Meeting held this morning (Tuesday, August 26, 2025), two of the three Grafton County Commissioners moved to approve the recommendation of building another courthouse costing $72.3 million dollars!

Grafton County Commissioner, Katie Hedberg of Plymouth, made the motion (reiterating the words of County Administrator, Julie Libby), “…to approve the conceptual design and move to bond…” (the contentious and controversial 52-year-old present courthouse) “to the Grafton County Executive Committee” (chaired by Lebanon Representative George Sykes) “and the then to the Grafton County Delegation.”

The motion was seconded by Grafton County Commissioner, Martha McLeod of Franconia.  On a 2 – 1 vote with Commissioner Wendy Piper of Enfield voting, “No!” the motion passed.

The next Grafton County Delegation Meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2025.

Residents and taxpayers of Grafton County are urged to contact the members of the County Delegation (all the NH State Representatives of Grafton County) to tell them to vote, “NO!” on this unaffordable and untimely project.
