MacDonald: NH Judicial Branch Wants Your Opinion

On June 3rd, New Hampshire’s Judicial Branch published an update requesting public comment on court efficiency.

“Our efficiency committee has been working hard and taking feedback from rank and file members of the judicial branch as well as key stakeholders related to how we can maximize the efficient use of public resources and streamline and coordinate our administrative functions. Now, we want the public to have a say,” said New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice Gordon J. MacDonald.  “We have already received some terrific ideas and we would encourage any member of the public to contribute to the conversation. Anyone who has had any experiences in our courts can participate in this survey, and we have made it very easy and safe to let us know your thoughts – all survey responses are anonymous, and it takes just a minute or two to complete. We are very grateful for the partnership with the National Center for State Courts for helping us to design this critical tool for hearing directly from the public, as well as compiling and analyzing the data yielded from it.”

The survey includes six questions, along with opportunities to explain your answers or add details. I wouldn’t call it the best place to tell them the Family COurt System sucks and need to be eliminated but if you have had any interaction with the State Courts you might find it worth the few minutes it takes to complete the survey.

It is anonymous, although I can’t confirm whether they track and log the IP address used to complete the survey. It is also not designed for the complaints most of us likely have.

New Hampshire’s court system is notorious for being awful, but there is no survey for that.

The Legislature had the opportunity to make meaningful advances by abolishing the state’s atrocious family court system, but was unable to do so. I know no one who has had a good experience there, but the cowards can’t seem to find the juice to get that done.

However, we’ve an efficiency survey.

Is it better than nothing? I’m not convinced it is.
