Grafton County Commissioner and Commission chairman Martha McLeod has been making quite the splash on our pages. She is on the record as being less than enthusiastic about removing illegal aliens or helping the Federal government enforce the law. Two weeks later, people who wanted to listen in but could not attend discovered the Zoom version of the meeting had been dropped.
According to the website, “…at the direction of the ‘Chairman of the Board,’ there is no longer virtual participation for Commissioner meetings.”
This change came as a surprise to everyone except McLeod, who decided to end them without informing or even consulting her co-commissioners. Her reasoning. She’s allowed to.
I received an email last week from a county resident regarding this matter.
This is the audio recording of the Grafton County Commissioners’ Meeting of Tuesday, April 22, 2025. It is the first meeting since Chairwoman McLeod “shutdown,” “blacked-out” the virtual, online ZOOM meetings which were available to the taxpayers & residents of Grafton County so residents and taxpayers could log on and see & hear the participants of the meetings.
Heated discussion is clearly heard among the 3 Commissioners, two of whom were “blind-sided” by the unilateral, arbitrary ruling of the Chairwoman to cut-off access to their constituents. We’re still trying to find out if this action is legal. In the meantime, we have the audio recordings where they discuss salaries for county employees among other things.
The discussion begins at 33:30. We only have the audio recording because Chairwoman McLeod discontinued the virtual Zoom meeting, and the minutes will not be made public until they are approved at the next meeting. And while she claims this is about COVID-19 being over and there are ways for the public to participate or attend meetings (so they don’t need Zoom), it sounds like GraniteGrok’s reporting on the wacky things this Democrat says and does is why she’s ending live Zoom calls.
