Maine Governor Janet Mills has been hailed as a leftist hero for “standing up to Trump.” Democrats across the land hailed her, lauded her, and smiled their Cheshire grins, putting her on the national map. People know who Janet Mills is, but with great exposure comes the opportunity for vulnerability.
Mills put her state squarely in the crosshairs of Pam Bondi’s DOJ, the Department of Ed, Labor, and a long list of agencies tasked with rooting out discrimination disguised as DEI. Maine has been running blue, so there’s lots of that.
Maine is also famous for declaring itself a trans-torture sanctuary state. Can’t get your Munchausen by proxy fix in your home state. Bring your kids to the land of potatoes and pine trees to get them drugged or cut. It doesn’t even have to be yours.
Now, Maine and Janet Mills are famous because her sister, Dora Anne Mills, is the chief health improvement officer at MaineHealth, which was a,
“… top donor to Mills’ 2022 gubernatorial run. The healthcare system offers damaging and irreversible “treatments” for gender-confused minors, such as puberty blockers, “gender affirming hormone therapy,” and “menstrual suppression.”
Such procedures are lucrative for MaineHealth, and, of course, backed by Gov. Mills.
The Maine Medical Center, which is part of MaineHealth, doled out so-called transgender treatment to the largest number of minors in the state, according to data available from the Do No Harm database. The medical center, according to a report from The Maine Wire, submitted tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of insurance claims on 244 prescriptions for puberty blockers and cross-sex hormone treatments.
Mills’ support for the transgender agenda enriches her sister’s employer, who then returns the favor in the form of campaign contributions. A fact that is not nearly as uncommon or scurrilous as we’d like to think, but a less-than-flattering look given the circumstances.
Mills has signed shield laws protecting everyone involved from legal complications as well as a conversion therapy ban, which contradicts the Left’s unhinged support for therapy that results in the conversion of children from one “gender” to another. [Related: The Trans Agenda Is Gay Conversion Therapy!] The governor has erected protections that ensure the industry she funds with tax dollars can live on to support her – and those like her politically.
Is this another example of the Streisand Effect? Not exactly. The Streisand Effect is the deliberate act of censorship resulting in an exponential expression of that thing. You claim victimhood at some invasion of privacy that is anything but and the result is everyone everywhere knowing about it.
Ms. Mills wasn’t hiding so much as engaging in political-machine business as usual which, as the result of her lionization by the left has invited scrutiny she’d otherwise have avoided. The scandal, therefore, is less the appearance of another taxpayer for campaign contribution laundromat and more the location of the scheme and the hypocrisy of her actions.
Mills has banned the use of therapy or other means to convince someone to change their perception about their gender (conversion therapy) while shielding the people doing it to kids under the guise of gender-related health care (drugs and surgery to change someone’s gender).
This criminal hypocrisy is far worse than what the left labels as conversion therapy. The trans agenda can permanently alter an impressionable person, neutering them before they could even become aware of their sexuality or become active sexually, at great risk to their health, both mental and physical. All because they say it is so.
The simple truth that these are the same people obsessed with depopulation, descended from the castrators and eugenicists of the last century, is not, in my mind, a coincidence.
Update: Something very odd happened to this post before publication. Much of it was duplicated, and many original corrections were absent. I think I’ve fixed it properly. Thanks to everyone who pointed it out.
