Growing up in England, I was always aware of the socialist inclinations of my mother country. But I was lucky; I was brought up in a conservative household embracing a deep reverence for tradition, a strong sense of community, and pride in national identity. English conservatism is very cultural and institutional.
Socialism in the UK originated in the 19th century and has taken many different forms, from the communism of Robert Owen, a Welsh radical, to the Labour Party in 1900. Anti-socialism and anti-immigration sentiment started to rise in the late 20th century and the British people are fighting back. In 2018, driven by opposition to the rise of trade union expansion, the Reform Party was born and was rebranded as Reform UK in 2021.
Currently, drained by millions of unauthorized migrant crossings into the U.K. leeching off the country’s many social systems, the conservative Reform Party’s core platform is understandably based on limiting immigration. The British taxpayers are demanding the government tighten legal visa restrictions and expand enforcement and deportation operations. Ousting the socialist Labour Party is an uphill battle, but the British are fierce fighters, and I believe they will win.
France is experiencing its own socialistic and immigration fight. Chaos reigns over there according to worldwide news reports. It started with student protests for better education but has quickly become an out-of-control series of violent riots, with reported immigrant Islamic and pro-Palestinian radicals seizing the opportunity by infiltrating the student crowds to further agitate the situation. It’s not about education; it’s a direct result of mass migration. France doesn’t have a country anymore because it doesn’t have borders!
China hasn’t escaped the growing worldwide anger against communism and its precursor socialism. Lily Tang Williams, congressional candidate for New Hampshire’s 2nd congressional district, knows first-hand what life under strict authoritarian control under communism is like. She was born and raised in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province in China under the rule of Mao Zedong and the Chinese Cultural Revolution.
Like me, Lily is now a proud American citizen. She is a co-founder and chair of the NH Asian American Coalition, and she travels the country speaking about her experiences growing up in communist China. Lily understands how a single-party monopoly holds absolute political power over its people with zero tolerance for organized political opposition. In China, public criticism of top leadership is heavily censored, and open dissent can result in police interrogation and detention.
This is the path the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) want for America.
The likes of Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-avowed Democratic Socialist, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Abdul El-Sayed, a Michigan candidate for U.S. Senate, et al., all claim they want power for the people, but they know in reality the DSA wants power and control OVER the people.
The DSA platform includes:
• Abolishing institutions like the U.S. Senate, the Electoral College, and the Supreme Court, replacing them with a system where the presidency and judiciary are chosen by a multi-party Congress
• Open borders
• Voting rights for non-citizens
• Public ownership of major corporations and key industries
It’s laughable when DSA candidates and advocates claim that Republicans are taking away their votes, yet their platform agenda clearly states that they will abolish our votes altogether by DSA-controlled leadership “choosing” Congress!
The good news is that Democratic centrists fear far-left nominees could cost their party winnable seats, and they are beginning to realize how hard it is for the DSA to expand its mainstream influence beyond states like California, Illinois, New York, and Michigan. But that doesn’t stop the DSA from trying.
Think about this before you vote on November 3rd. Think NH First. Think America First. It’s important for our young voters to know the real story behind socialism, and it’s not all about getting free stuff. Engage in conversation with your children and grandchildren and explain that socialism is not idealistic.
Lily Tang Williams recognizes the threats of socialism. She will fight for your rights in Congress. She will fight to keep our borders closed to illegal immigration. She will fight to lower taxes and reduce government spending to combat inflation. She will fight housing costs by reducing local zoning regulations and red tape, lowering interest rates, and enabling qualified buyers to assume existing loans with lower rates.
Freedom is the power or right to speak, act, and live without unfair limits or outside control.
