The latest installment of Spider-Man has saved the summer superhero movie business, for now, and offered some relief after Supergirl bombed at the box office. I’m still waiting on the blue-haired feminazi screeching about bigots and whatnot, given that Spider-Man did better than Supergirl.
Maybe it’s the hyphen. Or maybe it’s that we’re not supposed to know what a woman or a girl is, so we stayed home. Or, more likely, that a sum of these things coupled with a bad script, lots of fighting over the final edit, or a studio that was getting sick of it that had an aching desire to push something out there even if it was a bowel movement.
Don’t blame the CGI dog; the dog did great in Superman.
Again, with the sexism, but as Lou Aguilar writes at The American Spectator,
I’ve been writing for years about the total destruction of the man-built entertainment industry wrought by ignorant agenda-driven feminist witches and their little male familiars. Now I have formidable company. Music video producer Joseph Kahn has had enough of the castrative dysfunction. His piece calls for the return of the Hollywood tough guys who knew their business and respected their audience, unlike the harpies and weenies currently in charge.
Only Kathleen Kennedy could ruin the Star Wars Franchise isn’t a thing because the world is filled with ignorant, agenda-driven (and might I add pretentious) feminist witches and their little male familiars.
Lou mentions Kennedy later in his piece as another girl-boss, which she is or was, riding the early Disney takeover fame of Rogue One and The Mandalorian, the latter of which she wrecked when Gina Carano was just being Gina Carano and Disney’s beta-male familiars couldn’t handle it. It was the first crack, one that would lead to lesbian Jedi witches or some such thing, and a long series of mediocre everything but the universe they were set in.
George got his four billion, so whatever, and he’s probably spent some time with the Disney folks post-deal. Lucas had his own failures, which some would describe as the prequels, but they still made buckets of money, and Lucas is the guy who told Carrie Fisher they don’t wear bras in space, or so that story goes.
Again, with the sexism, but Hollywood’s best work was before whatever the hell is going on now. When you didn’t have to have some percentage of your cast and crew representing some made-up progressive spectrum lest you be snubbed for Award party nominations.
And I’m not all that concerned about Helen of Troy being an accomplished black actress who was in the movie for a hot minute, but it’s annoying as hell when producers and directors take extensive liberty with the source material.
House of the Dragon has exceptional actors in it, but the Valyrians were pale, pasty white, and did you see that they were white? And to close a loop, I think Milly Alcock, one letter away from a very VERY unfortunate surname. She is excellent as young Rhaenyra Targaryen, not to take anything away from They/Them Emma D’Arcy, her older self. But Steve Toussaint is also great as the Sea Snake, even if he’s about fifty shades too dark for the character he’s playing.
Yes, we noticed.
Great actors can make you forget about the woke BS unless you’re forced to watch commercials in Spanish with non-bilingual couples in them. HBO doesn’t do that, thankfully, but streaming services have and do, and the Commercial division of what goes on TV hasn’t gotten the message either. Mixed-race couples are not so common that they’d be in EVERY commercial on television.
Treat it like affirmative action. At best, one in five commercials could have a mixed-race couple.
And everyone in Hollywood/entertainment may know a lot of gay people (or pretenders ‘cuz skill and ability don’t matter as much). And Pretentious white, liberal actors with trans children. But the rest of us don’t. So, part of the problem is they’ve gotten high on their own social-construct supply and are projecting what they think is normal onto an audience. Trying to make it normal for everyone, and it’s distracting.
I had gay friends in High School (late 1970s, people). Several of them. And we didn’t much care because they didn’t try to make everything about them or being gay. Good people who didn’t make everyone embrace their thing, see them, witness, no parades. We talked about normal stuff. School, homework, the news. Those days are gone.
I’m not sure we need the asshole men and jerk producers Lou suggests, but if you were writing a book about how to make lots of great movies instead of one or two a year, you’d look at what worked.
Woke hasn’t. Women studio chiefs have a long way to go to achieve the sort of hit-after-hit success that the boys enjoyed. That’s not to say there aren’t or can’t be great women movie execs, writers, producers, or directors. And maybe the problem is the level of competition, but you’d have to be an ignorant, agenda-driven feminist witch to not notice what makes money and what doesn’t.
And no matter how socialist they pretend to be when it doesn’t matter, no one volunteers to make, work on, star in, or distribute a multimillion-dollar (tens or hundreds of millions) project for free.
Try it. Government-subsidized and controlled entertainment sucks, but in that climate you have to watch it, and failing the test can be unpleasant.
Might I suggest a thriller with the equivalent of Soviet-era East German Olympic “women’s” athletes? The hormones without the culture war. Still women but built like men. Ask AI to write it.
The worst that could happen is it is as well received as most of what you’re doing now.
