Is there a court left for the Democrats to run to after the US Supreme Court’s redistricting ruling in Louisiana v. Callais? Racially gerrymandered congressional districts are illegal. The Voting Rights Act, the very thing the Dems have used to waterboard extra seats in Congress in the name of civil rights, is now their worst enemy, and Harmeet Dhillon has announced they will enforce the ruling.
In all fifty states.
And it’s not like they can hide them. If race has been used to gerrymander a congressional district, there will be plenty of evidence. Bragging, posturing, pulpit pounding, and paperwork.
Following the ruling, Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) issued a statement on X urging the DOJ to apply the Supreme Court decision across all states and “use it to end illegally racially-gerrymandered districts.” …
“I am asking DOJ to identify all Section 2 redistricting cases, settlements, consent decrees, statements of interest, and remedial-map positions that remain in effect. The old regime cannot be allowed to continue simply because no one has gone back and checked the files,” he wrote on X.
The Civil Rights Division of the DOJ says it is already on it.
Section 2 prohibits voting practices or procedures that discriminate based on race, color, or membership in a large language-minority group such as American Indian, Asian American, Alaskan Native, or American Hispanic.
The clutching of pearls and gnashing of teeth had already begun. Last night, Chris “My Restaurant killed a guy” Pappas (or is X account flunky) shared this, to which I replied.
Not “might be,” but is. Equal rights means that all human beings are equal at birth regardless of race, sex, and so on, and that targeting any demographic characteristic creates an unequal circumstance. Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act prohibits this, and Harmeet Dillion Manes seeks to see the matter addressed.
It is a race to redistrict, which, if you listen to Democrats in places like California and Virginia, is an act of social justice.
Democrats also hated the Trump rush to a vaccine for COVID until it became the actual Biden vaccine, after which, they loved it so much, you had to get it too, or else.
Expect the same inversion here, but in the opposite direction, and with more Stochastic terrorism (hat tip to Deb Altschiller for reminding us there is one word to describe what Dems have been doing all along).
