PAYNE: Alexander Fraser Tytler’s Freedom Fatal Sequence

It is disheartening to look at Alexander Fraser Tytler’s (1722-1783) model depicting the cyclical path from freedom to slavery. And yet, the predominant political wisdom of our day features this same progression.  The fallen human nature of man hasn’t changed since Adam took a bite out of the apple; men want to play God while greed and envy move others to want something for nothing.

Dictators throughout history follow the same path. They appeal to these sinful desires that Tytler warns against. We continue to learn nothing from history except that we learn nothing from history.

We view this same agenda of human will each election day: political appeal to this base nature of something for nothing.  Karl Marx didn’t invent socialism or communism; he just outlined a plan of action to exploit the what’s-in-it-for-me nature for the benefit of those who want to play God.

Marx’s words draw these battle lines between freedom and slavery, casting aside eternal truths that are common to all: “But Communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality….” Thereby, immortalizing the war on God’s words: “Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

Tytler’s cyclic picture recognizes this evil trend that free people must overcome to remain free. America’s colonial generation, rooted in deep faith, found the courage to step into liberty. Why do our people remain ignorant of these foundations of liberty?

When was the last time our public schools taught true American history without the lie that “there is no God”? The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution rest firmly on the essential eternal truths of the bible. Creator wisdom that created our liberty is something the creators in the educational establishment, or even AI, know nothing about. God is the sole author of liberty.
