OPINION: Of course Maggie Goodlander Wants Military To Refuse To Obey Lawful Trump Orders

Maggie Goodlander (a/k/a “Squeaky Carpetbagger) recently appeared in a video with other Congressional Democrats directed to the military. Goodlander and her allies in the local press claim the video merely “restates the law,” and reminds military that they can “refuse to obey illegal orders.” But if you watch the entire video, it is clear that Goodlander and her cohorts are insinuating that Trump has issued “illegal orders,” which military should refuse to obey.

The video, however, does not identify these alleged “illegal orders.” Nor have Goodlander and her cohorts, despite repeated requests, identified any “illegal orders.”Needless to say this ambiguity is intentional and totally cynical. Goodlander and her cohorts want to pit the military against Trump in order to weaken Trump politically, but do not want to be accountable for the military refusing to obey lawful orders.

In the video, Goodlander and her cohorts tell the military that “the administration is pitting our uniformed military … against American citizens.” “The threats to our constitution aren’t just coming from abroad, but from right here at home.” And “now more than ever, the American people need you to stand up for our laws. Our constitution.” The video then admonishes the military to refuse to obey “illegal orders.”

These allegations … that Trump is a threat to the constitution, that Trump is ordering the military to attack civilians, that the military needs to “stand up” to Trump … go far beyond merely “restating the law,” as Goodlander disingenuously claims. Rather, Goodlander and her cohorts are insinuating that the military is currently operating under “illegal orders” that the military must refuse to obey.

The video is seditious. The participants in the video know that alleging that Trump has issued “illegal orders” that the military must refuse to obey, but refusing to identify these alleged “illegal orders” may cause some military personnel to refuse to obey lawful orders.

The participants to the video also know that Trump has not issued any “illegal orders.” While there have been various decisions by Obama/Biden judges adverse to Trump’s deployment of the National Guard, these decisions are being appealed. It is likely that the decisions of these Obama/Biden judges will be reversed by the Supreme Court, just as Obama/Biden judges have been reversed on a range of other matters where they have attempted to exercise or prevent Trump from exercising the powers of the Executive Branch.
