MACDONALD: Why Am I Agreeing with John Fetterman Again?

This is not incitement. We are all about self-defense, not attack. We do not tolerate threats or harm or implied harm to groups or individuals. This is an observation based on real-world facts. John Fetterman is a Democrat who keeps speaking sense, which suggests that one of the potential cures for radical progressivism is a stroke.

Fetterman was a reliable left-wing loon with brain damage, which they hid to get him elected. Once in the US Senate, they changed the dress code so he could dress like Bill Belichick during summer training.

We made fun of him when he was being crazy, loopy, and not all there. How could they make a guy, dealing with all of this, run a campaign, work on that schedule, and then get him across the finish line? Because blue butts in seats.

And now, he’s one of the only Democrats in the US Senate, or in Congress, who thinks regular Americans, many of whom the left lured onto the government dole, are more important than stuffing far-left partisan crap into the Continuing Resolution.

And?

We should never forget that he’s still a Democrat. He’s still going to disagree with Republicans on any number of issues and shows no inclination to cross over to the other side of the aisle. But he’s a rare thing, these days: An actual moderate Democrat, a man who is putting his constituents ahead of his party. At least where the shutdown is concerned. He’s no conservative, bearing only a 7 percent rating from Heritage Action. But he makes us hearken back to the days when someone could be a liberal and still be someone worthy of respect. More to the point, he reminds me of the days when there were still moderate Democrats

Much like RFKJ, Fetterman is a guy with whom we’d disagree on a very long list of things the government should and should not do: priorities, spending, all of it. But at no point would we ever want them harmed or dead because of any of that. It’s our job to convince them there is a different or better path, and here’s why. Many have walked away and come to our side – or at least realized the craziness for what it is and met us halfway. Maybe they, at the very least, realize we must protect and defend free speech so we can have these conversations. And it is okay to respect that.

That’s a win.

It is pointless to hate people because of their party registration. In fact, it’s counterproductive. Most of us are not the party or all the things it says or does. A lot of us would rather talk about anything else. More often than not, the left won’t let us, and having politicized almost everything, it’s no wonder we feel more divided, which was, of course, the point.

Fetterman is that rare donkey who is not concerned with the party line on every issue and says what he thinks. We won’t always agree, but we can bet it is more likely to be what he thinks, not leadership, or donors, or some lobbyist. You can’t say that about too many people in Washington.

And that may prove not to be universal, but at this moment in time, John Fetterman is the sort of Democrat America needs if we have to have them at all.
