OPINION: Why They Must Go

I just finished reading a comment in response to a video about Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and it got me thinking. This person was, reasonably, wondering about whether it is okay to fire an employee because they had celebrated Charlie Kirk’s death publicly. I had to wonder if we should go in the cancellation direction, so I thought about it and then posted the following.

“Imagine a person who feels that it is okay, and actually celebrates, the assassination of Charlie Kirk working in a hospital setting. A patient comes in who is wearing a cross or some other indicator that they are Christian. Could this medical worker be trusted to give proper care to this patient? What if this were a person employed at a financial institution in charge of your investment portfolio, and they noticed that you were giving to conservative charities? Would they do the best they could to increase your holdings, or would unfortunate bad investments start to happen? What if this person were your waiter in a restaurant? Hopefully, you can see where I am going here. If you are so radicalized that you can condone and celebrate murder over ideological differences, you can’t be trusted to do your job properly. This is grounds to have your employment terminated.”

I especially don’t want that person, who is so full of hate and vitriol, to educate our country’s children. We can’t perpetuate a society that is so intolerant that it advocates for murder.

The left is, self-reportedly, the tolerant group. In a recent video with Danielle D’Souza Gill, she discussed the definition of tolerance. As she did, let’s look at that definition.

“To refrain from interfering with or prohibiting (something undesirable or outside one’s own practice or beliefs); allow or permit.” (The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition)

This is NOT a description of the left. Clearly, as demonstrated during “the summer of love,” recent Christian school shootings, the 2017 mass shooting of republican congressmen at baseball practice, the multiple attempted assassinations of President Trump, and now the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the left is not interested in “tolerating” our differences of opinion.

As J.D. Vance stated in his concluding monologue when he hosted the Charlie Kirk Show on Monday, September 15th,

“This is not a both-sides problem…It is a statistical fact that most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the far left…There is no unity with people who scream at children over their parents’ politics.”

I would add that there is no unity, or even “tolerance,” with people who want you dead.

So, in the end, I conclude that cancellation, including public denunciation, de-friending, and, yes, termination of employment, are acceptable ways to deal with these deranged human beings.

Conservatives have successfully travelled this path with our reaction to Anheuser-Busch, Tractor Supply, John Deere, and other companies. Let’s keep going. It’s the only way to allow our society to continue in a reasonable, civil direction. And, to some extent, it is our only way to survive.
