Opinion: Crime Without Consequence

It’s a familiar scene now in America’s crumbling blue cities: a child is nearly abducted from a mall, only to discover the man had over 30 prior criminal cases and still managed to roam free. Meanwhile, a DOJ staffer is beaten nearly to death in Logan Circle. Two teens—barely old enough to drive—face charges of unarmed carjacking. Yes, unarmed. As if fists, feet, and 10-to-1 beatdowns don’t qualify as “weapons” anymore.

Let’s call this what it is: a complete breakdown of law and order, engineered by progressive prosecutors and left-wing mayors who have zero interest in public safety and everything to gain from keeping criminals on the streets.

The Soft-on-Crime Blueprint: Fairfax County and D.C. as Ground Zero

Take Fairfax County, Virginia. Their far-left prosecutor, Steve Descano, has become the poster child for failed “reform.” This is a man under investigation by Governor Glenn Youngkin, and rightfully so. Descano’s resume is littered with examples of violent repeat offenders being released back into the community like feral dogs through a broken fence.

And if that wasn’t bad enough, let’s talk about D.C.—our nation’s capital, where carjackings have become as common as potholes. I’ve spent time in D.C., and anyone who has lived there can tell you: no area is safe anymore. From Georgetown to Logan Circle, the chaos is widespread. And much of it is carried out by children. Not six-year-olds stealing cookies, mind you—13-year-olds with stun guns, jacking Hondas and leaving bodies in their wake.

Over 50% of carjackings in D.C. are now committed by minors. Kids as young as 12 are turned into disposable foot soldiers for organized crime because the system lets them walk. These aren’t mistakes—they’re calculated moves by gangs who know juvenile offenders face little to no consequence. What’s worse is that we fund this madness with sky-high public school budgets that yield nothing but crime, confusion, and cultural collapse.

A Consequence-Free Nation Breeds Lawlessness

Former Judge Jeanine Pirro put it plain and simple: these kids aren’t being held accountable, and the system is rigged to shield them. Because when you’re 15, beat a man half to death, and walk away with a family court slap on the wrist, you’re not learning a lesson. You’re learning that crime pays.

And where’s Mayor Muriel Bowser in all this? The same mayor who once proudly called D.C. a sanctuary city, then quietly removed that status in her recent budget. Oh, the political winds sure do blow fast when violent crime makes headlines and voters start fleeing like refugees from their own zip codes.

But it’s not just about one mayor. It’s the entire left-wing philosophy:

  • Decriminalize everything.
  • Decarcerate everyone.
  • Defund the police.
  • And then gaslight the public when it all goes sideways.

From Seattle to Cincinnati, innocent Americans—young, old, black, white—are getting pummeled, carjacked, abducted, even murdered… all in the name of “equity” and “justice reform.”

Meanwhile, real justice—the kind that keeps families safe and communities thriving—is locked behind bars.

This Is Not Compassion. This Is Carnage.

Let’s be clear: failing to hold violent teenagers accountable isn’t compassion—it’s cruelty. Cruelty to the victims, to the neighborhoods terrorized, and even to the youth themselves who grow up learning that society will make excuses for their violence instead of instilling discipline, consequences, and redemption.

And here’s the kicker—these Democrat cities are overwhelmingly black. The left screams “Black Lives Matter,” but they turn a blind eye while young black men are slaughtered by other young black men in consequence-free crime waves. Where’s the outrage when a 66-year-old Uber driver is tased to death in his own car by two girls who get off easy? Where’s the marching, the weeping, the candlelight vigil?

It’s not about race. It’s about responsibility. And our cities have none of it left.

What Needs to Change

  1. Charge violent minors as adults. If you can kill, you can do time. Period.
  2. Elect prosecutors who prosecute. Soros-backed DAs like Descano are cancer to civilized society. Cut them out.
  3. Re-fund the police. You want fewer carjackings? Start with more cops and fewer catch-and-release policies.
  4. Restore the family unit. The breakdown of traditional homes is fueling a generation of lost, angry kids raised by TikTok instead of parents.
  5. End the sanctuary city scam. If you’re protecting criminals over citizens, you shouldn’t be getting a penny in federal funds.

Final Word

This isn’t just a policy failure. It’s a moral one. The left has flipped the script—criminals are now the victims, and victims are left bleeding on the sidewalk.

But we the people? We’re not buying it anymore.

It’s time to stop coddling criminals—young or old—and bring back order, accountability, and justice. Not just for the sake of politics. But for the sake of our country.

Because a nation that can’t protect its children in a mall or its workers on the street… is a nation on borrowed time.
