I’m singing to the choir, for the most part, when I say things like, fund it yourself. This is America. We know the Progs are obsessed with where Wall Street is. Whenever it dips, it’s Trump’s fault and the end of the world. Record highs and soaring investment in America aren’t even news, but it can’t not be if the alternative is bad.
Likewise, the matter of projects Trump and his Executive Office leadership are, to borrow from Left Win chicken littles, defunding. If Planned Parenthood, a billion-dollar global conglomerate, serves such a necessary function, they are better off with private, not public, funding. The same is true for NPR, Universities with massive endowments, and so on.
Federal dollars have strings and sometimes more or less of them, but you run the risk of them getting yanked or just roped around your neck. Taxdollars come with whatever interests arrive in the form of the elected officials tasked with oversight.
Independent funding allows for academic, media, medical, research, and speech freedom, for as long or as far as your donors’ leash will let you roam. Why do you think institutions like Hillsdale College refuse any federal money, be it grants or loans for tuition? If a bunch of knuckle-dragging, 18th century policy purists can do it, while turning out far more well-rounded graduates, Harvard, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Penn State can too.
Or is someone worried that their product may not be worth the investment? How about Planned Parenthood, NPR, or maybe Moderna?
Moderna “is a publicly traded company with billions in market cap, a war chest of covid windfall cash, and obligations to shareholders. If its pipeline of mRNA products is so promising, why should taxpayers fund the research?”
Similarly, the other players have lost access to $ 500 million in funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services.
HHS said the $500 million in contract cancellations covered twenty-two different projects, all managed by BARDA, the government’s hybrid health-military-espionage biomedical skunkworks, a mutant love baby between DARPA and anthrax vaccines. After being cloned from DARPA in 2006, BARDA has spent money like a tipsy Ukrainian oligarch’s wife, with free license to invest in unsupervised “lone-bidder” contracts and unaccountable, high-risk “moonshot” projects.
Ignore the pearl-clutching about bio-threats we might face from America’s enemies. MRNA “vaccines” have proven to be the single greatest biological threat to Americans in our lifetimes. Our government funded them. It funded the viral research that produced a pandemic to justify its use. It engineered unnecessary fear to increase uptake. It then deployed them (globally) without providing even basic knowledge that could make informed consent impossible.
That same government that lied about safety and efficacy, and not only tried to bury the truth about how useless and dangerous they were (for 75 years), it silenced anyone who dared to question anything or share the truth.
Until the American government is no longer the biggest biological threat to Americans, the rest of the world can wait. Or, perhaps not. There is money to be made in our capitalist nation wherever there is a product or service in demand for which no one else has cornered the market.
If NPR is so damn valuable, someone will fund it, or it can run commercials like everyone else, including Pfizer and Moderna ads.
If Planned Parenthood’s services are so necessary, there are more than enough rich liberals donating billions to Democrats who could skip the middleman. The money will go directly to the need you insist must be fulfilled, and free yourself from the capricious nature of politics and majorities you have been unable to control.
And if the mRNA platform is so lucrative, investors will line up and risk a few bucks today for the promise of many more down the road. Think Amazon, or Google, or Nvidia.
You will, as with all of these and many other examples, have to convince them to invest, and then convince someone else to buy it.
That, if you’d not guessed, is the thing the whiners and fearmongers are so damn mad about.
