MacDonald: A Strange Hill Named ‘Dugan’ To Die On

Six years ago, in Massachusetts, Newton District Judge Shelley M. Joseph knowingly helped an illegal criminal alien escape ICE by escorting him through her chambers and out the Jury door. She turned herself in and was indicted on four charges but managed to slow-walk her way to a dismissal by the then-Biden DOJ in 2022. Her case was not, however, over. One of the conditions appears to have been a review by the commission on judicial conduct, which will hear both sides and decide whether she failed to comply with the law.

Democrats lost their minds back then, defending the criminal behavior, but the outrage got lost in the noise of the so-called pandemic, the 2020 elections, and everything that followed.

Judge Hannah Dugan did nearly the same thing. A twice-deported criminal alien sits in court, while ICE waits outside to collect him. The judge makes them leave (in this case to speak to her boss), after which she collects the criminal and escorts him and his counsel through her chambers and out a jury door.

ICE collects him on the street at some point after that, and Dugan finds herself the new darling of the left—a victim of Donald Trump’s tyrannical rule. Free Hanna Dugan, they cry. Separation of powers, they claim. But there is no separation between the law and the executive branch’s authority to enforce it. This is its job. The president will execute the laws passed by Congress, and obstructing arrest and concealing a criminal are against the law, and a judge would know that.

A Grand Jury just indicted her on two counts. ICE had a lawful order to detain him. She yelled at them, made a scene, misdirected them, and then scurried off to help him escape. And while she is innocent until the court finds her guilty, the second Trump Administration appears prepared to fast-track to avoid another Shelley Joseph situation.

The grand jury agreed, even though outlets like the Times wrung their hands and clutched their pearls — and wrung their pearls and clutched their hands, just for good measure — over the fact that “the arrest of the judge marked an escalation of the Trump administration’s warnings that local officials must not impede federal efforts to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.”

The donkey cart full of crazies has come out to defend Hannah. She’s the victim. This is proof that Trump is out to punish his political opponents. But this hill, named Dugan, is not the best hill to die on. Duggan is a frikkin judge, not some corrupt re-elected fossil collecting lobbyist largess in DC the way a boat collects barnacles. The defendant is a twice-deported illegal with a criminal record, which includes hitting women. There were female plaintiffs in the courtroom from which he escaped with Dugan’s help.

The optics are terrible.

Democrats are not just pro-crime but anti-women, which is something we’ve known for years. Dem leadership isn’t even trying to be sly about it. But not every Democrat rides in the donkey cart full of crazy. Some of them still voted for Kamala but had to hold their nose. A few of them may have owned Teslas that their fellow travelers vandalized.

The Hannah Dugan case is a gold mine of opportunity. Eduardo Flores-Ruiz punched a roommate 30 times and then hit a woman who tried to intervene after he broke back into the US for a second time.

Hannah Dugan not only ignores and obstructs the law, but she also defends a criminal who hits women. Democrats who support her look like they are pro-crime, anti-justice, and anti-women.

And so, they are.
