Trump Says He’ll Support Chris Sununu for US Senate

The “will he run or won’t he” rumor mill just took an interesting turn. I’m referring to former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu. He’s hinted at past Senate runs and even dipped a toe into the presidential race pool (the water was cold). Outsiders have been happy to speculate while those of us inside know that his Wife isn’t interested in a life in DC.

Has something changed?

Sunun was a proper Trump basher when backing Nikki Haley for President (and for more than a few years before that). Haley flamed out, and Sununu put his support behind Trump—and not just his support, it seems. Mr. Trump says Chris has played nice for the past year and revisited him at the White House.

It’s nice to have the support, but it doesn’t change the local calculus, which includes something I speculated over the weekend. That the Sununus would love one of their own to be President. Chris has been a governor, so the US Senate seems like another rung on the way there. The problem for Sununu is that he’s already a bit moderate. The US Senate would only make that worse.

And then there’s his wife. Has she changed her mind?

We will know soon enough. If he is running, he’ll have to get a ground game started before too long. 2026 will be here faster than we want.
