Misplaced Honor

Flying the American flag at half mast, as some local residents were respectfully doing to salute President Carter, is an act of which his Presidency was not worthy.  Rather,  President Carter’s recent passing should be confined to one’s individual remorse and remembrance of his selfless contributions outside of politics.  The call for a thirty-day show of respect stains America’s rite of saluting the passing of great leaders.  In no way should he be rated and treated among America’s rarest.

When he left the farm for the intrigue of today’s wayward governing, he actually left behind his natural calling.  In fact, that same intrigue that carried Carter into our Presidency later produced two more Oval Office embarrassments.

Returning to our recent loss, there is no doubt that President Carter is at peace, not because of his Presidential tour but rather for his later endeavors.  In those years, Carter was a humanitarian, a selfless giver of his time and effort.  However, the flag isn’t flown at half mast for the homes he helped build.  More importantly, it shouldn’t be flown for his Presidential record, which generally courted globalism over America’s free enterprise.

The bookends of his Presidency summarize his Presidential quality.  His first official act in office was to grant amnesty to those who fled their country’s draft during a time of peril. He then closed his term by giving his successor a winning campaign message that would free those hostages after 444 days of captivity and White House silence.

As for the other two members of this presidential act; Clinton also dodged America’s draft during that same time of peril yet was able to become the military’s “commander-in-chief!”  Also, he conducted some shady financial dealings with our Country’s main adversary while in office.  Then came Obama, who was never able to provide adequate proof of citizenship, which happens to be the first demand of all candidates.   Once in office, his anti-American policies, conduct, and personal statements were embarrassments to the office and to our country.

Each of these three Presidencies was gained with sufficient voter support.  These five election insults remain as a deep wound upon America’s legacy and world respect.   But in each case, it was achieved through public deception, manipulation and BS.   Its public effects are now viewed on the lawns of local residences.

All this might be seen as trivial but we all know that every journey begins with the first step.  This current flag abuse represents that step.  But it also can be viewed with its more immediate use when recognizing it’s signal to just how off base current teachings are and of the degree to which it has removed our history, our governing and in general, our American being.  If this waywardness remains, the only requirement that our enemy will need is patience!
