Under The Weather

by Steve MacDonald

Yes, my output has been stymied—from writing to sharing regularly to social media updates. I am wrestling with a barrage of cold symptoms I had somehow managed to avoid for over three months.

Since November, someone in my house has had a cold or flu-like something. Fevers, coughs, sniffling, sneezing. It’s been relentless. They’d get sick then again, but since November, I’ve managed to remain immune. That streak of good luck ended this week. It is my turn to be unwell, and so I am.

I don’t get this sort of thing often. I can go years without catching a cold or flu, but it seems my time is due, so I apologize for any deficiencies in the regular order. This is not a one-man show, but it is a one-man operation. There are no days off. I get up every morning, even now, 365 days a year, and make sure there’s content for the next 24-36 hours. And this week, right after that, I go back to bed. Then I get up, do my other remote job, and return to bed.

There is no one else to keep the promise, as I like to say, and I love the work (even on weeks like this), so I am beyond pleased at the output of others who have made keeping the promise possible. Every day, a full day of content on a wide range of subjects (hopefully), including news from other states, regions, the nation, or the world – and some stuff about New Hampshire. New content, every day, for our mutual consideration and edification.

If not for these continued contributions, our pages might have holes in them where content typically would appear.

Thank you, and keep them coming. I expect to be wrestling with this for a few more days. And if you’re looking for suggestions for op-eds, how about some favoring Universal EFAs? I say this because (especially over the next two days), we’ve got a lot of content dissecting the plan as flawed, troubling, bad math, poor thinking, and a threat to liberty. I tend to see those flaws as well and am wary of the legislation’s side effects, but the point of the ‘Grok is to debate and discuss, and we are not a narrative trap nor an echo chamber.

That perception, if it exists, is misplaced and wrong. We are pro-liberty, conservatarian guardians of individual rights and freedoms, and there is more than one idea about what that means, where it is, what was lost or gained, where we are in relation, or how we get there from here, wherever there is.

If you disagree with a prevailing trend among our contributors, share your concerns. Show and tell. Make a case. Sell the positives or dissect opponents’ narratives. Our readers deserve to hear them, but we need to have them to share them. And no one can argue for or against your side until they’ve heard it.

And “how dare you publish their rubbish is not what I mean.” I do get a fair bit of that.

I’m going back to bed. I’ll check my inbox when I get up in a few hours. And every few hours of every day, 24/7/365. That’s the promise. It just happens to be walking through molasses at the moment.
