I Like “US Senator Matt Gaetz” Better, Anyway

Matt Gaetz has withdrawn from the nomination to be Trump’s next Attorney General after almost everyone, but a few, made it clear they couldn’t vote to confirm him. I honestly thought this was a trick play a few days in and Gaetz was never the guy, especially after Trump named Rubio for Secretary of State. Someone needs to fill that spot and talk about a finger in the eye of the US Senate.

Ron DeSantis wouldn’t mind adding a finger in the other eye. The Senate is where people go to protect the establishment. Gaetz would be a bull in their China shop, so much so that I have to wonder if they’d even seat him. Or if DeSantis would pick him for that reason.

I know Lara Trump. I’m not sure if that was a serious play or a distraction. DeSantis doesn’t exactly owe Trump anything, but we don’t know who he has in mind, and Gaetz is suddenly ‘available.’ If you wanted to see US Senators whine and squirm more than the thought of Gaetz as AG, picture them imagining me in their Caucus.

Whatever happens, Trump will want to wheel and deal with everyone because that’s what he loves. The question is – aside from who will replace Gaetz as the nominee for AG – what deals?
