Democrats Talk Freedom, But For Who

We do not know precisely what the Democrat platform is for the 2024 election because, after nearly four weeks on the campaign trail, no reporter has asked Kamala Harris a question. Harris and Walz have made numerous appearances, both together and alone, and given vague, sweeping speeches off a teleprompter, but not once have they stopped to allow questions about specifics. This approach to campaigning is not new, as we saw the Democrats shield Joe Biden from the media in 2020. We ended up with President Joe Biden and a box of surprise policies that two-thirds of the country disagreed with. Instead of learning from our mistakes, we allow them to happen again four years later.

One word that Harris and Walz have often used and is supposedly the cornerstone of their campaign is “Freedom.” Unfortunately, the freedoms they refer to benefit some while burdening others. Selective freedom is not the way that this country was built. Expensive programs that give some the freedom from repaying their student loans or medical bills mean that someone else has to pay for them. Opening up our borders to give illegal migrants the freedom to enter our country means that the world is a less safe place for Americans in their neighborhoods. Every freedom the Democrats promote means a hardship for others.

According to Vice President Harris, she has supported and pushed for every idea from President Joe Biden. If that is true, why then are you distancing yourself from those ideas? Harris/Walz are backing up a few key issues, which are designed for all yet come with a hefty price tag for some. These are in the Harris playbook, including reinstating Roe v Wade, which will never happen with the current Supreme Court. She wants to maintain the current border situation. She is making calls for more controls at the border, but don’t let her fool you. Both Harris and Walz are anti-borders and pro-sanctuary city/state. Harris wants to attack retailers and wholesalers for price gauging. When Governor Whitmer was asked over the weekend about that proposal, she said, “it speaks to Kamala Harris’ values,” unfortunately not to her knowledge of the economy. Any effort at price controls, such as in the 70s, leads to product shortages and higher prices. It ultimately adds to inflation. She, of course, backs the Green Deal and will continue to push for mandatory EVs.

The bottom line is we do not know Kamala Harris or her policies. She will bend her beliefs depending on who she is speaking to, and without direct questions from the media, she can keep up her Kameleon approach. She is a candidate of sound bites and promises, and they are resonating with a younger generation that is too lazy to dig below the headlines.

I do not think we will know much more about Kamala Harris after the DNC this week. We will hear the typical Democrat rhetoric from the old and new factions. Joe, Jill Biden, and Hillary Clinton will speak for the past, while people like Pete Buttigieg will talk to the future. Featuring Buttigieg shows how weak the Democrat bench is and why the Republicans should be in a good position to regain control and get this country out of its tailspin.
