ACTA Classical Schools Foundation Selects St. George Classical Academy as its first “Sponsorship School”

— Investing in the growing success of Classical education —

ACTA Classical Schools Foundation, a New Hampshire-based private charitable organization established earlier this year to encourage schools offering classical education, has chosen St. George Classical Academy, a private classical school located in Boxford, Massachusetts, to be its first “Sponsorship School.”  The Foundation’s Board agreed that St. George Classical Academy, now completing its first academic year, is a promising early-stage classical school displaying both strong leadership and a robust commitment to the classical education curriculum.  As part of its “Sponsorship School” designation, ACTA awarded St. George Classical Academy a matching “challenge” grant to help promote the success of the school’s fund-raising campaign.

The mission of ACTA Classical Schools Foundation is to support the growth of classical education by providing financial assistance, encouragement, and mentoring to new and early-stage public and private classical schools as the best hope to improve American education.

In announcing the first “Sponsorship School” selection and “challenge” grant, ACTA’s Vice Chair, Richard Merkt, noted the significance of the designation as a resource for new and early-stage classical schools.

“This is the second tangible action by ACTA Classical Schools Foundation in just 90 days to assist newly emerging classical schools,” observed Merkt. “Last month, ACTA named Lionheart Classical Academy in Peterborough, New Hampshire, as its first ‘Model School,’ and now ACTA has recognized St. George Classical Academy as its first ‘Sponsorship School.’ Both designations come with grants and incentives to help new and early-stage classical schools with needed financial support.”

In keeping with ACTA’s mission, the Vice Chair pointed out the importance of real actions to help classical schools still working through the founding and early-stage processes.

“ACTA was founded on the premise that, indeed, ‘Actions speak louder than words,’” said Merkt. “The Founders are unanimously committed to giving as many families as possible access to a classical education for their children, and this means encouraging new classical schools by sharing both financial support and expertise as they grow.”

ACTA has invited additional classical schools to apply for consideration and sponsorship and will provide financial support to selected schools through “challenge” grants.  It is currently conducting interviews with several classical schools and expects to announce additional “Sponsorship Schools” and grants in coming weeks.
