Merry Christmas!

by Steve MacDonald

I was a big fan of Charles Schultz and Peanuts as a kid, and I think it was my gateway to appreciating jazz and then the blues. I am a fan of all music and an expert on none (for the record), but jazz has always had a special place for my ear.

Many years later, I discovered that Vince Guaraldi and his trio were the genius behind “Peanuts” music, and the Christmas album has been a longtime favorite.

It reminds me of Christmas and that unique and priceless time as a kid when the world held so much more wonder (and it wasn’t my job to plan dinner every night forever).

And for several years, I sang in my high school chorus and then in a college chorus, so I understand music and have sung all the traditional stuff (in at least half a dozen languages – 40 years ago). It’s all good and, in many cases, glorious, but this is what takes me back.

Merry Christmas!
