It looks like El Nino is also about to start its cycle (the flip side being La Nina) and last through the rest of the year. For the Northeast, it looks like we’re going to have a high chance of having above average temperatures but a “regular” amount of rain.

Weekly, I also watch NOAAs’s National Integrated Drought Information System on New Hampshire’s Drought status (comes out every Thursday).  We were in drought for quite some time before the winter but finally returning to normal after some of our drenching rains late in the winter and into spring. It’s looking like we aren’t going to be in as bad shape as last summer.  Here’s a baseline snapshot as of yesterday with only the very northern tip of NH being a bit dry
