New Hampshire House Rep Jeffrey Greeson (R -Wentworth) had some words and gestures for a local member of the road crew. He seems unhappy with the work and felt the need to “communicate” his disapproval.
Here’s the video.
I reached out to Pastor Greeson, who has an outstanding NHHRA score (98.5%), and Liberty Rating (93 – A), for comment, but he might have been busy getting arrested.
Representative Jeffrey Greeson, 51, a Republican of Wentworth, was arrested Friday and charged with disorderly conduct, criminal threatening, and simple assault, New Hampshire State Police said in a statement. He was released on personal recognizance and is due back in court on May 18.
The plow driver, Wentworth Highway Road Agent Paul Manson, said Greeson was standing in front of his truck in the middle of the road and yelling at him while he was out plowing the towns’ streets as a storm dropped nearly a foot of snow in the area on Saturday. Wentworth is a rural town about 15 miles northwest of Plymouth, N.H.
Manson said he got out of his truck to talk to Greeson, whom he did not know, and brought his phone to record the interaction. Manson shared the video with the Globe.
Greeson is not commenting to any media, so we’ll have to wait for an explanation if he’s got one. I’m not sure what excuse would suffice for this case of road-crew rage. Clearly, he wants the mounting snow off the road and not in his driveway. Did he need to be somewhere? Does that justify the behavior? Nope.
And yes, I suspect Democrats will be calling for his resignation. The loss of even one vote in the thin Republican majority for the rest of the session is a big deal. Any offense will be grounds for a PR campaign to oust a Republican.
They will probably be relentless.
And while there’s no excuse for the behavior that I can see, is it an offense that rises to the level of leaving public office? He is accused of assault for touching the plow driver’s camera and, presumably, the driver.
We know at least two assault reps on the Democrat side who stayed in office and kept pushing the Democrat rock. Katherine Rogers and Deb Altschiller.
There’s also a sitting NH Congresscritter, Ann Kuster, who grabbed a camera out of someone’s hands and swore at them a few years back, and we’ve been punished with her repeated re-election ever since.
There is precedent to stay in office, but I think he owes someone an apology.
[Update] Rep Greeson has informed me that he apologized to the plow guy very shortly after the incident and that the driver accepted his apology. He also posted a note on the Wentworth town bulletin board. He did add that there was more to the story that we see in the video, but that it did not excuse how he reacted.
