National Propaganda Radio (NPR) Gets Pinched as Corporate Sponsors Walk Away

The big news in Liberal Radio (doing business as public radio) is a network-wide hiring freeze. According to reports, National Propaganda Radio (NPR) lost 20 million in corporate sponsors, which I find amusing because it’s their own damn fault.

The economy went into the toilet as outlets like NPR peddled non-stop pandemic fearmongering. While most of the damage was borne by small and medium-sized businesses with no lobbyists or PACs, large concerns also feel the pinch. The result is a realignment of spending priorities, of which NPR is not one.

NPR will need to cut at least $10 million from the current fiscal year ending next Sept. 30, the network’s chief executive, John Lansing, announced Wednesday, due to a sharp drop in revenue from sponsors.

Lansing told staffers in a memo that he intended to avoid layoffs, but would be forced to severely curtail hiring, amounting to what he described as “close to a total hiring freeze.” The network will also sharply cut back discretionary spending and non-essential travel.

Not to worry. I’m sure the Feds in DC will print some money to ensure no “reporters” are lost to the fiscal backlash created by the lockdowns, shutdowns, and the rampant printing of money to backfill progressive fantasies. It is, after all, Public Radio, and we don’t want to lose touch with the Birkenstock-wearing Pinot Grigio crowd.

After leaving “Twitter” for “Canada,” that critical progressive lifeline may be all that is left to “save our democracy.”

“It means we won’t have the skills and support of the people who would have been in the roles that must remain vacant,” Lansing wrote. “For those working long and stressful hours, that is not good news. But it is a reality we can’t avoid if we are to save jobs.”

Translation: Decruitment is an option, and much like the late 2020 reality that Hunter Biden’s laptop was real and damning, they can’t say it out loud. Not yet. Christmas is, after all, a few weeks away, even while NPR as a culture would love to see it revert to something like Saturnalia.
