Update: Sherm Packard is NH Speaker of the House with 205 votes – Scanlon Re-Elected as SecState

by Skip

Matt Wilhelm, a rising star in the Democrat Party, received 186 votes.

Packard immediately announced that Jason Osborne and Matt Wilhelm will be the leaders of their caucuses (Republicans and Democrats, respectively).

They are now proceeding with the rest of the NH House offices. Paul Smith has been nominated to be the next (continuing) Clerk of the NH House (no other nominations forwarded – a single vote was cast in the affirmative).  Ditto for the NH Sergeant of Arms – JB Cullen.

The House is now in recess but will be returning.

Next up after that will be the race for the NH Secretary of State and Treasurer positions.

Secretary of State:

Surprise: NH State Senator Lou D’Allesandro (D) nominated current SecState David Scanlon (R).  Wha???

NOT a surprise: NH State Senator Donna Soucy (D) nominated Melanie Levesque. Of COURSE, she threw stones at the office showing that this IS a partisan election.

Voting has started.

Vote total:  413  (207 votes to win)

Scanlon:  238    Winner

Levesque:  175

Treasurer: Dunno, had to leave for a bit.

Rochester District 4 tied race.  HR6 is accepted.

HR 1 – all 2022 Rules to be adopted. Passed by voice vote.
