One thing stands out above all others when Democrats talk about Common-Sense gun laws. They not only don’t work but also make violent crime more common. That includes Red Flag Laws, which Illinois has, and did not prevent crazy town Robert Crimo from buying a rifle.
Crimo is the Highland Park Shooter who killed at least five (I think it’s up to seven now) and wounded thirty during a 4th of July Parade just north of Chigaco – the unofficial Common Sense gun capital of the Western Hemisphere. A place that makes it into America’s top five violent crime capitals every year and often lands on top.
Crimo allegedly supports Antifa and has a history of mental illness, including suicide and threatening to ‘Kill everyone.’ He is known to the police—a poster child for the supposed purpose of Red Flag Laws.
Not really.
As with every “common sense gun law™,” the goal is not the stated purpose. Most of those laws are meant to disarm law-abiding citizens, create victims, and sow fear and disorder. Make it impossible to defend yourself from all threats, primarily domestic. And the left knows criminals will ignore their law (the way they do?), and they like criminals more than you. But Red Flag laws are different. They are a political weapon.
Sure, you might see them used now and again to separate Great Grampa (who might have Alzheimer’s) from his Henry Rifle, but that’s not the actual purpose. Red Flag Laws are a rubber stamp to make examples of political opponents, people who speak up, say the wrong thing.
And much the way lying to Congress or the FBI is only a felony when the person doing it is not a Democrat, these interventions only apply to those to whom the people in power see a need.
It’s not about public safety. It’s about political safety. All the “common sense” gun laws are like that.
