Apologies for all the Steve stuff over the past two days, but everyone else is tied up with life or busy. We do this as a hobby, so our authors will create or curate news and opinion when life allows. When it does not, I do most of the heavy lifting.
The result is a long line of posts by me.
I’d rather see things mixed up a bit, and even on days like these, I typically have some op-eds to toss in. Not yesterday or today. Everyone’s busy. So, you get me. I hope that’s okay.
We should be back to our regular programming mix at any moment but until then, welcome to SteveGrok!
Housekeeping
We are working on launching a newsletter. This will eventually replace the DailyGrok email. MailChimp has been hinting at its desire to be #woke, so our relationship with them is officially limited to the latest cultural whim or fancy.
Free speech be damned. And it’s not just them.
The solution is to create an internal replacement that runs off our server and through our hosting company. We’re ironing out the final details and will migrate the existing mailing list into the newsletter plugin.
And yes, there is always a possibility that our hosting company will get #woke too, but that does not appear to be the case for now. But we’re not waiting for those winds to change. We have other backup positions framed or set. I’ll have to check with Skip on that to make sure. The goal is to be able to flick a virtual switch if the host dumps us and be back online with little to no delay.
The Grok App is on hold. Not enough hours in the day, but it’s on the wish list.
Fully localizing the Micro Groks is still a dream not realized. This is where the MGs in Nashua, the Seacoast, Windham, Monadnock, Manchester, Nashua, and Gilford (soon to be LakesRegionGrok) publish local content for a local audience. Two issues persist. We need more authors, and we need writers who want to focus locally.
We have created a platform with a global reach. We can make small-town stories national ones. But much like the issue over the past two days, bandwidth and will, and we’re all volunteers. I do not begrudge anyone any of that and am grateful for the content and everyone who provides it.
Traffic is still increasing. The daily average is up, and overall growth is excellent. We have a growing list of aggregators picking up stories with more frequency, and we appreciate all of them. A few worth noting include our partner Whatfinger.com, Liberty Daily, The Other McCain, The Feral Irishman, The Blue State Conservative, and the Gates of Vienna. There are more, but these have been very consistent about picking up work from our authors and sharing it.
That’s my goal; to get their work to the broadest possible audience. And when they can’t find time to write, I do what I can to fill in, and I’ll keep filling until the cavalry arrives.
As always, thanks for reading and sharing.
